This cemetery was supposedly founded back in the 1870's because an Irish priest refused to bury some Czechs. It is beautiful and unusual, with a gate resembling a Bohemian castle. Highlight are the mausoleum of Chicago mayor Anton Cermak, killed by a bullet intended for Roosevelt; the lovely "Mother" statue and the eerie "Pilgrim"; the large chapel (used in an action film); and a selection of very sculptural monuments. The cemetery was jusr recognized with a corporate grant to renovate its century old water tower.
Also visit the lovely Gompers Park if in the area.
