Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

Science is what turns everyone into a young kid! This was a GREAT location. We've been there three times and STILL LOVE IT. So much interactive stuff there to do for kids. A must-see destination if you're in Chicago.

“A must see”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Loved our visit to the museum. It has something for teenagers and adults . So much to see and do. We left there having learned lots of new things. I typically am not a museum girl but this one came highly recommended and so glad we did it.

We really liked this museum, even though it was packed wall-to-wall with screaming kids that were just starting summer break. If there's some time when it is less crowded, that would probably make it better. The weather exhibit was great. It was a little disappointing that despite the expensive admission ticket, there were a bunch of add-ons (submarine, coal mine, etc.).

“Amazing Museum”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

The Museum of Science and Industry is amazing! There are many employees giving guided tour or a demonstration that is included in the regular museum exhibit. My children ages 6 & 8 as well as the 2 adults in our party enjoyed this museum very much. Our favorite exhibits were the Pioneer Zephyr tour of the vintage train located in the lobby, the Circus exhibit, the Coal mining tour, Science Storms and You! the experience, walking through the airplane and steam train. The Idea Factory is a must see for children under 10. This musuem is the best that I have toured. We paid for only 1 extra exhibit, the Coal Mining Experience. While the mining exhibit is great, the rest of the museum is just as interesting and can fill an entire day. We were at the musuem for 6 hours with a short break for lunch. The admission price of $18 for adults and $11 for children is well worth the experience. The cafeteria is also very nice with many options. The food is somewhat expensive, plan for about $7-10 per person with drinks. We traveled 2 hours each way (in the same day) to visit this musuem, and it was well worth the time and expense.

“Chicago trip”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

This was very interesting, I would have enjoyed it a lot more if there had not been 5000 school children there that day. Check before you go to make sure it is not the time for field trips.
