I recently went through the Fine Arts building through Open House Chicago~incredible building~the theater is being renovated, but the rest of the building is still being used~there are several Yoga Studios, Massage, a book store and several music instructors which fill the halls with fantastic sounds.
I also found a great tour office~Chicago Savvy Tours~Victoria Allen 312-731-8000 ~she clearly has a passion for Chicago ~if you want an interesting tour of Chicago~contact Victoria. (also has a website)
Don't miss this building!

We only had half a day for our visit. Impressionists were the draw, and the pictures were properly displayed. We did not have time for all the exhibits, and some of the modern anti-art works were forgettable. But Picasso, Leger, van Gogh, Rodin, Monet, and so many others in one afternoon in a beautiful building. We did not waste our time.

I've been going to this building for over 30 years and it is a step back in time. This may be one of the new buildings anywhere in the USA that still has elevator operators. That alone is worth the visit -- like something out of the 50s. Many Chicago musicians have studios here, and there is a good used bookstore on the 2nd floor that is worth checking out. Come here and wander around -- look at the architecture and interior details. It is Retro but for real.

The Fine Arts Institute is located near downtown Chicago, easy to get to, and a must see for anyone spending any amount of time in Chicago. With a wide variety of painters and times, their is something for ever one. Always featuring visiting collections from other museums you can come over and over again and see something new each time.

Great old elevator and murals on the top floors. Artist studios like Frank lloyd wright and Lorado Taft still have their name plates on the doors. 3rd floor has a charming used old book store.
