“Love these pies”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

Working near Hoosier Mama is an exercise in constant vigilance. The pies are awesome and perfect for bringing to a party or potluck. Pretty good price point too. The "restaurant" in Chicago is more of a counter with very little space but the pies are better than anything that most of us could whip up at home - although a friend who has the Hoosier Mama Cookbook says that it is awesome and if you buy it - you will be able to make their pies at home. That being said, if you are short on time and have somewhere to go - Hoosier Mama's is the place. Just remember - they are closed on Mondays.

“Disappointing.”
Reviewed 29 December 2013 via mobile

As a born and raised Chicagoan, I can honestly say that I have had better pie, in the old school, Chicago diners (admittedly getting few and far between).

How can you call yourself a Pie Shop without à la mode, for your warm fruit pie, by the slice? "We don't serve ice cream. :-0"' said the 20 something, detached girl, behind the counter. Really?! Will then, "We don't come back."

Additionally: very expensive for whole pies, doesn't give you the warm and fuzzy of a sanitary bakery, mediocre customer service, and lack of attention to detail.

I am a big fan of good pie. I was disappointed. The best pie in the Midwest still can be found anywhere pie is served in Traverse City, MI.

“Sweet, savory, and full of yum!”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

I first went to Hoosier Mama's on a trip to Chicago four years ago, and couldn't forget it. I stopped in this time right before Thanksgiving to pick up a pie for a party. Hoosier Mama's features a variety of delicious pastries, from the traditional (apple, pumpkin, cherry) to the inventive (pear-apple-cranberry with pecan crumble topping). It also has savory pot pies and quiches, which make for a delicious meal before you dive into dessert. They have sandwiches, quiches, and other baked goods as well, but let's face it. You're coming here for the pies! They've opened a new branch in Evanston, which should make it easier for the northside pie aficianados to join in the fun!

“Maple Pecan Pie HEAVEN”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

This is a great place to go and have a slice of pie and a coffee, or do what we did, order two to go. The only drawback is the location is 'ehhh' and the place is small. I have lived in Chicago for 5 years and just discovered this place after hearing much hype about it. And yes we will be going back, and back, and back. Pecan pie is a fan favorite of my family and whenever we travel, especially southeast, we make a point to try the pecan pie. This was easily top 3 we've ever had. Whatever the occasion, if you are a pecan pie fan, you have to try this place.
