“Cubs/Cards game”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

We were in the city for our first Cubs/Cards game and just loved it. First off the location of this hotel is the best. We were surrounded by top notch restaurants and bars. The restaurant connected to the hotel had really good breakfasts and pizza. They even left the kitchen open when we arrived so close to the normal closing hours. The hotel is only 2 blocks to the Red line to get to the game. That couldn't have been any easier.
I really appreciated having the bottled water dispensers on our floor as well as the free wifi. It's beyond me why everyone doesn't offer it.
My only complaint was the room size. We were barely there but its was a bit snug getting around the bed at night. The bathroom was a bit tight also. I believe we had a "club" room. It's probably designed for business travelers instead of couples.

Room Tip: One facing the river would be the best.

For a family party, we booked three rooms. One was very small (though we've stayed in smaller in other cities.) The other two were nicely sized for a downtown hotel. The hotel maps show that no two rooms on a floor have the same layout, so there's a wide variety of rooms. All of ours had marvelous views of the river.

The staff were friendly and competent. A standout was Tania at the front desk. On a busy Friday evening, she balanced working our complicated request for certain sightseeing tickets with checking in a group of people, meeting the needs of an anxious delivery man at the loading dock, directing suitcase deliveries to rooms, and handling a group of gift bags for certain guests. Manager Anna really seemed to want to make this place great, though there are some issues with using a converted, historic office building as a hotel which just can't be overcome.

The second floor meeting area proved to be a convenient place to gather our group and we loved the coffee choices. It would have been helpful if there had been some instructions about what to do when the coffee beans ran out and to have marked which towers and floors each bank of elevators accessed. The latter also was needed on LL1 for those who used the basement laundry and fitness room.

The best thing about this Club Quarters is the location. I had no trouble getting to the hotel from O'Hare using the Blue Line, and once there, found we were within easy walking distance of many great attractions and had convenient bus and el service elsewhere. Amtrak is a short cab ride away. The few times we used my brother-in-law's car, we were impressed by the hard work of the valets, who were constantly trying to accommodate guests without disrupting traffic on a busy street.

I've stayed here at least 6 times and have enjoyed every visit. The staff is always welcoming and helpful. The rooms, while small, are clean, laid out well, and comfortable. The view of the Chicago River and the bridges cannot be beat. The restaurant (Bella Bacinos) is excellent and reasonably priced. The location is simply stellar, walking distance to the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, and scores of great restaurants and bars. In my view it is one of the best, if not the best, deal in the Loop.

We experienced a friendly check in. Our room was clean yet a little run down and extremely small. We could hardly open our suitcases (one at a time only). The view was great though and the location was very convenient. We did not have a car and we didn't need one either. There is free water (+ bottles) provided on every floor which was quite nice. The price we paid was rather high for such a small room but Chicago seems to be a very pricey city for hotel rooms overall.

Even though the hotel is in a great location and reasonably priced, the rooms are a bit too small for my taste. Our first room had no view and the room was claustrophobic in size. We called the front desk to ask for another room and for a $35 upgrade we were moved to a larger view with a fantastic view. The newly ostentatious Trump tower and the river were across the street with a fantastic location for walking down Michigan Avenue.
My only complaint for the hotel, other than the first room we were given, was the room key malfunctions. Room keys are needed to operate the elevator and most of the time they didn't work. You had to hope that someone else was on the elevator to share the use of their key. We were there 3 nights and had to have our keys reprogrammed 3 times. Very much of a hassle. Also, we had to ask for 2 washcloths because only one was provided each day for 2 adults. Not sure what that was all about! The staff was very courteous and helpful and the hotel restaurant features an excellent outdoor patio. One other extra worth mentioning: Water stations provided with empty bottles are positioned on each floor. Instead of charging $2 a bottle for water in your room, the stations are free to all guests. Plus an area on the 2nd floor with free snacks and soft drinks. I believe these little perks may have offset the grip of only receiving one face cloth!

I just recently got back from a terrific business trip in Chicago where I stayed three nights at Club Quarters.

Pros - Great location, reasonably priced, very helpful and knowledgeable staff (countless times the front desk workers helped me navigate the city).

Cons - The building is very old, which makes for some beautiful architecture but also means smaller rooms, the gym is also a little on the small side but has the necessities to not break routine - it is also worth noting that its location in proximity to the running trails along the beaches kept my workouts outside.

Overall: I loved my stay here. Perfect location, it was priceless being able to have my base-camp located right on the Chicago river as there is so much to see and do within walking distance (never needed a cab during my stay). My room was small, but it was the perfect size for a business trip. The staff was very accommodating and helped confirm the most efficient travel paths for my various destinations, saving me lots of time. The hotel also has water bottles available, located near the elevators, which were very handy when walking to work each morning and returning from the pubs at night.

What a wonderful experience Chicago was. Th staff was especially helpful and friendly! Mike, the doorman, was anticipatory and intuitive. He knew what you needed/wanted and offered help instead of waiting to be asked:)

Rooms are quiet and the higher floors have very few rooms on the floor. The hotel is a progressively skinny sky scraper.

There were lots of unexpected amenities- limitless bottled water available, coffee/tea/snacks, and two business areas with computers and the ability to print airline ticket.

The hotel is a great location on the main branch of the Chicago River a short walking distance to Millenium Park, El train, bus, restaurants, Magnificient Mile, shopping, Navy Pier, boat tours, restaurants, museums, jazz club, stage shows, etc. There was free WiFi throughout the hotel as well as the rooms.
