“Great view and excellent location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2011

My husband and I stayed here on July 5th after the U2 concert with another couple. It was a fun, hip place to stay with lots of nice touches in the rooms. We enjoyed walking around downtown Chicago, and we were able to walk from Soldier Field back to the hotel after the concert. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.

Needed a 1 night stay in Chicago for business. Being a true believer, I chose the Palomar based on Trip Advisor ratings and was very pleased. This hotel has an excelllent location for access to the highlights of downtown Chicago, walking distance to almost everything. It is spotlessly clean, super friendly staff, a delightful happy hour with really nice wine and a great night sleep. Couldn't ask for more. I'll go back on my annual trip to Chicago.

Visiting the Palomar for 5 days with my husband in July, proved to be an excellent decision and made for the best hotel stay I've had. We booked through Magellan Vacations securing a room rate of only 149 USD for a 4 star hotel. Not only was the room contemporary, spacious and clean, the beds were amazing!! The hotel's amenities were not exceptional but were definitely sufficient; it is after all a boutique hotel and we were there to enjoy the city not the hotel. We loved the cocktail hour wine reception held daily and made acquaintance with another couple staying at the hotel. The hotel's location was fabulous - within walking distance to Grant Park and Millennium Park down at the waterfront. We were able to walk to the riverboat cruises; visit the "off the rack" shopping district as well as Nordstrum and other upper scale stores, within 1 block from the hotel. The subway was a 2 minute walk from the hotel, which made for a short skip to Wrigley's Stadium for a ball game; the nightlife surrounding the hotel was equally terrific where we enjoyed both the House of Blues and dinner alongside the river. A short cab ride to Zanie's comedy club was just over $5. All of this made the hotel very enjoyable but what made it exceptional was the staff. The concierge was helpful but the best ambassador of the hotel was their doorman "Blue" who made you feel like family the minute you landed there. Three weeks after this holiday, I had occasion to visit again for business and received a warm welcome, once again, by Blue. His warm and friendly attitude made us feel like this hotel wanted our business, a rarity in the industry. This time I was able to visit the RedHead Piano Bar ,1 1/2 blocks away....a must for anyone visiting Chicago. I can't wait to visit Chicago again and will absolutely be staying at the Palomar. I have recommended it to friends and they loved it as much as us. If you are coming by car you may want to consider parking in a public lot kitty corner to the hotel - the valet parking was $49/night while the public was only $30, savings that can add up quickly.

Room Tip: Book through Magellan Tours to get the best rates possible.

People are so nice and helpful.. Really appreciated Mark, the concierge. Room was quiet as requested and Ioved the extra touches- the free daily paper ,morning coffee, wine+ hour and the location is unbeatable- right across from the Metro and 3 short blocks from Michigan Ave. close to all the shopping. Price was not cheap , but still fairly priced especially because they 'do it well'.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, they even lent us a phone charger because we lost one of our suitcases. The area is very good for restaurants and shopping.

Our room deal incuded breakfast. We were delighted with the quality of the breakfast and the waiter was very friendly.

The only complaint we had was the shower wasn't very powerful. Other than that we would recommend this hotel.

I have stayed at Kimpton Hotels before and enjoyed them. This was no different - nice decor in the lobby and rooms and decent enough room sizes, although the bathroom was on the small size. The service we had was great - I asked for a room on a higher floor with a view, and received both. The wine hour is always a great bonus, especially as they also had a cocktail on offer, as well as deviled eggs as a snack. We had friends with us (staying at a different Kimpton hotel - hotel Monaco) and the staff had no problem with them taking part in our cocktail hour. We went up to see the pool, which was nice, and the roof terrace had a great view. The hotel had a great location for all of the Chicago sights. My only (very minor) complaint was that the lobby was small, but I guess that is what you get in cities.
I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

I have stayed here twice & really like the Kimpton quality boutique hotel experience. It's well situated to shopping & attractions. It will be even better when the construction on the street is completed. The food is fantastic in the restaurant & room service was also terrific. I have been looking for the downtown Chicago hotel to which we would happily return & have finally found it. Love it!
