Description: This is a new restaurant from the house of Bannos (owners of the infamously popular Heaven on Seven, here in Chicago). They have now opened what could affectionately be called the foodie tourists' dream come true, with everything from bone marrow to fried pig's ears and fresh ricotta as well as a nice selection of paninis, and of course, the wines. Not to mention: Its right on the Magnificent Mile!

“Unique experience”

My niece recommended this. We had to wait over an hour for a table (no reservations), but it was worth the wait. They had told us it would be an hour and a half but we got in earlier. At first I was very skeptical of the menu. It has a different selection of cuisine. The people next to us recommended a couple of items and we were not disappointed. The food comes out as shared dishes and in no particular order. I will definitely return to sample some more of the interesting menu.

“Just ok.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

visited last night. i live in italy so my caveat must be that i certainly must bebiased when it comes to good and fresh food and wine. i was expecting something spectacular based upon the reviews. what i found was that the charcuterie was fine in terms of taste and apparent quality (average), the cheese was below average in my opinion with a fairly tasteless pecorino and some other indistinct cheeses they served that did not even spark me to continue to eat them. the wine we ordered (insolia) was underwhelming, which is odd for a sicilian white and insolia in particular. it was certainly a nice and lively atmosphere and great location so i might return for that as it is a god spot to meet up with an old friend like i did. but, i definitely would not return for the food--as i found it underwhelming/indistinct.

“Sublime Swine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

This restaurant is trendy and popular yet completely humble. Our server Troy was awesome - he made great recommendations throughout the meal. We started with a selection of cheeses and wine - loved them all. We went on to the "Calamari with Fregula, Radishes, Cucumbers & Pistachios" and let me tell you, this is one of the best dishes I have ever eaten in my life. This dish is served cold, and it is such an explosion of fresh flavours and varied textures. I could have eaten two bowls and still not been tired of it! We also had a pork neck bone "smear" which was fabulous.

If you are a foodie, love experimental dishes and/or love wine and cheese, do not miss this place!!!

“What is not to love?!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Great wine, beer and a menu that has something for everyone. The octopus was to die for. Unfortunately, we had our fourteen-year-old along with us on that trip, so I didn't get much more than a taste. This is a great place to rest your feet and eat well after shopping the Magnificent Mile.

“Loved it so much, we went back the next day!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2014

Tucked away on a little courtyard down Michigan Avenue, is the purple pig. We went looking for it as a friend who was in Chicago the week before raved about this place. What a find!
We went Sunday evening and had to wait 45 mins for a table. Considering the weather was lovely and drinks were served where you waited, this wasn't an issue. We were seated on a giant shared table, which embodies the ethos of the restaurant.....sharing. Between the 2 of us we ordered 4 dishes and then another 2. The meatball sliders are delicious, as is the mortadella smear, as are the fried Manchego cheese pieces. I also loved my peas spearmint and bacon. It was all beyond delicious. It's not a cheap meal but it's definitely worth it.
The next day, which was our last in Chicago. We had a couple of hours spare mid afternoon.....we went straight back here! Definitely try the milk braised pork shoulder and the summer squash salad, these were amazing dishes and I'm still dreaming about them!
