“Fun food tour!”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

I booked this tour for a group of five people and all of us had a wonderful time. The volume and quality of food surpassed our expectations, while the cultural stops along the way enhanced the experience. And, it was a real treat to have Lynn, the founder of the company, giving our tour. I look forward to another Tastebud tour next time I visit Chicago, and hope to experience those offered in New Orleans and San Francisco.

“You will Love It! Even Our Teenagers Had Great Time”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We did the Flavors of Chicago tour and lucked out and got the owner, Lynn. He was a fantastic guide who obviously loves what he does. We definitely went places that we would have never gone on our own. Pizza @ Pizornio's was excellent. Palmer House was off the charts gorgeous and we got a great history lesson. American Dog was very good as it was first time we had a Chicago hot dog. Fanne May was better than I expected and Sugar Bliss was off the charts. You will buy cupcakes so bring some extra money. Bergdoff was neat and historic. Food was ok, beer was better. That's where I tour ended which was perfect.

You will walk, but there's a good amount of sitting as well. We were very comfortable all day. There is plenty of food. You will be full at the end.

This was more than a food tour, it was also a great history lesson. Very well balanced and even kept the attention of our teenagers.

Lynn is very excited to be opening up in San Francisco. This is a family business run by people who care about your experience and will take care of you. Personally these are the types of businesses I prefer to support. Given our excellent tour, I have no reason to go anywhere else. I recommend you check it out!

“Not at all impressed.”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

I have been on food tours in other cities and they were great. This one was, at best, simply OK.

The first problem was our tour guide. She was dressed inappropriately in a strappy tank top and cut off jean shorts with soiled bra straps showing, I understand that it's summer, but she should have been dressed professionally and she wasn't. She also was a challenged communicator who said "umm" frequently, which made it hard to listen to her. This was surprising since she told us she was an actress and comedian.

The next problem was the selection of restaurants. Chicago is a food city. There are countless exceptional restaurants. Unfortunately we didn't visit any of them.

The first stop on the tour is Pizanos. Their pizza is just OK. Lou Malnati's, Uno's and Giordanos all have much better Chicago pizza. Plus, the restaurant was a dive with a filthy restroom. We next stopped at the Drake Hotel, which was awkward since we weren't eating anything but just walking through the hotel to look at the tea room. The next stop was for a brownie. It was very average and honestly not worth eating. The third stop was for a Chicago hot dog, which was good. We ate in the bar next door -- another dive. The next stop was 7 on Heaven. This was a "Taste of Chicago" tour and just because a Cajun restaurant is in Chicago doesn't make it Chicago food. Plus, 7 on Heaven has to be the most over-rated restaurant in town. The next stop has absolutely no business being on a food tour -- Billy Goat Tavern. It brings a whole new meaning to "dive." We were each given a half of cheeseburger and I ate one bite. Even our guide repeatedly told us that we weren't there for the food but because the place inspired the "Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger ..." SNL skit. It's a food tour. You shouldn't need to give a warning about the poor quality of the food before going in. The final stop was Fannie May, a chocolate shop. We were given a pixie (turtle) and four artisan chocolates. Those were delicious.

The final problem was that our guide didn't actually give a tour. She provided some information at each stop about the food but said next to nothing while we were walking from stop to stop. Chicago is an amazing city with a fascinating history, beautiful architecture and really fun stories. She shared next to none of it.

If this had been an interesting tour with OK food, that would have been great. If it would have been an OK tour with great food, that would have been OK too. Unfortunately, it was an OK tour with mostly bad food.

“Not Only Food but A Lot of Fabulous History!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

John was our guide on this great food tour and he was a wealth of historical information! This was a great food tour in that you actually entered the restaurant and got to sit down to enjoy the fabulous samples and were always provided water with the opportunity to purchase other beverages. John gave us so much of the history and interesting tid bits about each place we visited that it brought Chicago to life! I had never heard about the. Ruse if the Billy Goat on the Chicago Cubs and loved the fact that Pizano's 90 something year old mother still insisted on coming to Pizanos three to four times a week to mix the dough for the pizza!

The samples were all VERY generous in size. 2 small slices of pizza from Pizanos, a whole Chicago hot dog, a large brownie and the history of the birth of the brownie, and a half cheeseburger from the Billy Goat Tavern .... Shall we say the tavern is NOT known for its food but its history and to end the tour a lot of candies from Fannie Mae's!

We loved Pizanos so much we had a pizza delivered by them to our hotel later that night!

“Taste Bud Tour, Fun for Sure!!”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

What a terrific time we had today on our Taste Bud "Flavors of Chicago " tour. Anna Lynn our guide was completely engaging. She was knowledgable and fun, explained the history of the restaurants, their menus and the sights along the way. Not only is this a fun eating tour of Chicago but it is also a great walking tour of a beautiful city. Pizza, Chicago hot dogs, New Orleans jambalaya and so much more made this 3.5 hour walking feast a day to remember. This was a blast. We had a great time and so did the others on the tour. Everybody was so friendly and enjoying each other's company. Anna Lynn made it wonderful for all of us. She deserves a raise!!!
