If you are a disabled tourist or have special needs to be addressed, Walk Chicago Tours devises a completely accessible itinerary at no extra cost. There is also no combining of groups or joining groups with strangers. Each tour reservation is a private promise...only your group with your own private guide(see FAQ page of their website). Guides at Walk Chicago Tours have been carefully chosen based upon their natural ability to engage visitors and to narrate historical facts, culture and urban lore. The company motto, "A Story on Every Corner", is typical of the ownership's insistence that Chicago's history, its neighborhoods, its culture and urban lore be delivered to visitors in an entertaining and informative manner that appeals to a wide array of groups. In fact, several of the guides are former teachers with years of experience at engaging listeners. After reading the rave reviews on Tripadvisor, I contacted Terry, the owner of Walk Chicago Tours, about booking 2 half-day tours for our group of 3 adults and 5 teens. As a result, I now am returning to add my own rave review! From our first phone conversation,Terry was incredibly responsive and keen to create two personalized tours based on our groups' unique interests. For the first tour, he himself guided us around the downtown area, highlighting the outdoor art, architecture and Tiffany glass. His pride and enthusiasm for Chicago was contagious and he knew just how to tell stories and share facts to keep us all engaged. Even the teens were wowed! Two days later, Judith Dunbar Hines (google her name to find out that she is a major Chicago personality!) led us on a wonderful tour highlighting the Mexican food sensations in the Pilsen area. Both Terry and Judith are interesting, personable, thoughtful and generous and we felt fortunate to see the city through the eyes of these two Chicagoans who are very involved in their city and accomplished as well. A tip to consider: Before our tours I'd sent Terry and Judith photos of our group members along with a brief description of each of us. This allowed us to recognize each other and gave them a quick overview of our interests and personalities. They enjoyed having this information and we felt like old friends in no time. They each contacted us after the tour with generous offers of additional help and we were touched and impressed.

I brought Mexican graduate students on a tour of Pilsen with James. He was very enthusiastic and genuine in his knowledge and passion of the neighborhood. Although we had gloomy weather, James was so positive and insightful that we hardly noticed. His vast knowledge of the public murals included a wide range of important Mexicans that impressed and excited the students. I've been on walking tours that seem to last a bit too long, and this is not one of them. The time flew by because of the interesting and varied sites we explored. I highly recommend for those who want to get out of the Loop and explore a side of the real Chicago.

Walk Chicago Tours was recommended by friends who walked with Terry. He called me back and gave us valuable advice regarding the route and timing of our walk, as we had a tight timeline in Chicago. He dispatched James to our hotel, who arrived promptly, and proceeded to entertain and inform us. He related well to our 12 year old granddaughter, pointing out things for her interest. He took us to the best coffee we had enjoyed in days, knowing that we were craving it. We all agreed it was a good investment to hang out with James for three hours. Do it.

The tour was engaging and delightful. No details were missed and every story built anticipation and excitement.I was proud to be standing in the same places as some of America's most iconic (or notorious) people. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in design or architecture.

Our afternoon walking tour of the Pilsen neighborhood with Terry Sullivan and Mimi was wonderful. Our conference theme was "Urban Gateways: Immigration and the Global City," and the walking tour was the perfect capstone to our 3-day conference. Our guests, who were professors from Liberal Arts graduate programs throughout the US and Canada, were very impressed with Terry Sullivan and Mimi's expertise on the ethnic history of the neighborhood. Our guides were extremely well-informed, interesting, and very funny--- the perfect taste of Chicago for our visitors. We were very impressed with how well Terry and Mimi tailored their talk to our conference themes. And we loved seeing the street murals, visiting one of the local churches, and getting a behind-the-scenes tour of a Mexican bakery. The Mexican Art Museum was a good quick stop to finish our tour. Will definitely return to the neighborhood, and will recommend Walk Chicago to our colleagues!
