Description: Girl & the Goat has been serving fun foods, craft beers, and making wine in a rustic and kick-butt environment since summer 2010. The restaurant opens at 4:30 every day, and stays open until 11pm on weeknights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (until those last late night eaters scrape their fork across the plate for the last time, or finish licking their plates until they're shiny and clean). The Goat's menu is divided into three categories: Vegetable, Fish, and of course Meat--while vegetable, fish, or meat are respectively the main stars of their categories, there are crossovers in each area so you'll get a little bit of everything. Bread is baked daily, and there are always new creations on the menu. Girl & the Goat sits in the West Loop smack dab in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor, but the location is still gritty enough to appeal to the chef’s integrity. The Goat has a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help.Girl & the Goat blended their own wine, and it's tasty. There are beers on tap from Three Floyd’s and a couple others. If you're lucky, you might come across the elusive collaboration beers that Stephanie personally crafted with a couple of beer buddy cohorts. In addition to tap beers, there's also a bunch of bottles to choose from. Girl & the Goat is open 7 days a week, because The Goat is a tireless beast, and besides, who needs rest anyway? Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Fantastic from start to stop. The absolute BEST vegetable dish I have ever had (Cauliflower), I would go back just for that. I ate waaay too much but enjoyed ever bit of it. Go a bit early so you can get a drink at the bar. Very very solid place for sure!!

“Great ambience, but not quite up to the hype”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We didn't have a reservation and they squeezed us in right at opening with a shared table, which was fine. You order small plates to share. We were advised two per person. The portions were much larger than expected, so we ordered way too much. The ham frites were too salty. The broccoli was great (with bleu cheese), salmon was terrific and the beef tongue was very good. The scallops and duck breast ($20.00 for several small slice) were a bit too salty. Fried pickles were good. Wine pours stingy. We didn't have desrt (too full and no chocolate option). The wait staff was friendly and informative. Things were hopping with the kitchen (nice to see it right there) and the place had a great vibe. Still, I was expecting to be wowed with every bite. I would go back, and order less to save room for a desert. I liked the unexpected mixes of flavors, but some were heavily sauced.

“Chicago highlight”
Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

Girl and the Goat was one of the highlights of our Chicago trip. My favorites were the roasted cauliflower, duck tongue, and dessert. Be sure to save room for dessert. You need to have a bit of an adventurous spirit but it is so worth every penny. Which ironically this was only like our third most expensive meal on our trip. They really pack a lot of flavor in each of their little plates. We listened to our very sweet servers recommendations, which I would do next time too.
