“Good Seafood Spot”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

This is a pretty good spot for a seafood dinner. There were seven in our party and we decided to give this place a try as it was not a long walk from our hotel. The location inside an office building and off the street was not that easy to find and was quite frankly probably easier to locate on foot than it would have been in a car. Nonetheless, once we found it, the interior proved to offer a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The seating arrangement was somewhat segmented and allowed for some seclusion and privacy when it was not busy, as was the case when we were there. The waiter attended to us promptly and the service was very good all evening. I started with the Coconut Curry soup which was fabulous. My colleague also indicated the Lobster Bisque soup was excellent. For entrees, we had various items and the reviews were mixed. I had the blackened tilapia and one of my colleagues had the blackened salmon. Both were covered with a black pepper cream sauce and were accompanied by grilled vegetables and rice. We were in agreement that both were very good. However, one of my other colleagues had the trout and indicated it was only average. Another colleague had the mussels and found them to be equally mediocre. Hence, our experiences varied according to the dish chosen. The prices were fairly reasonable, however, making it a decent value. Overall, this is not a bad place to try if you want fairly - priced seafood in a nice atmosphere in downtown Chicago.

“Bisque & Small Plates”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

Nick's at the Merchandise Mart is perfect for meeting people, quick bites, business lunch or post hours glass of wine. The small plates & Lobster Bisque are always great! Friendly service.

“Empty on Friday night and Monday night. Stay away.”
Reviewed 18 March 2013

The food is average not worth the price. On both visits less then 10 people in restaurant. Go elsewhere if this place is not busy you know the fish is not fresh. BTW I was there on. Friday during lent. This place reminds me of a chain hotel restaurant.

“lacking something”
Reviewed 11 March 2013

We had Saturday evening reservations, when we pulled up I was not sure it was even open. By reviews we expected the place to be busy and buzzing with excitement. The place was vertually empty. We had the shrimp appetizer, the Tilapia in butter wine sauce and the grouper blackened... I must say the food was excellent even the desert. I would not recommend this place for a first date on the weekend, maybe it is more of a week day place since its in the Merchandise mart.
