Owner description: Jazz Showcase is the most historic jazz club in Chicago, founded in 1947 by Joe Segal, and now owned and operated by Wayne Segal (Joe's son). Segal's national and international honors include being declared a "Master of Jazz" by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). "It is a great honor to be placed in the same company with so many of the wonderful artists I have presented all of these years!" Joe Segal, 88. The greatest names in jazz have played at Jazz Showcase including the likes of Count Basie, Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra, Sonny Stitt, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, and Art Blakey. Having changed location numerous times since its founding, the club relocated again in 2008 to Dearborn Station, in Chicago, Illinois. Today, Jazz Showcase continues to thrive and bring in top local, national, and international talent. Jazz Showcase presents live music 7 nights a week. Our famous 4 pm Sunday Matinee is geared towards families (Free admission for kids 12 and under). The 170-seat venue is available for group outings during any of our live performances and for private events during the day.

“intimate and great talent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013

The jazz showcase featured rare talent in an intimate setting. We were up close to the performance. We ordered VIP tickets on line ahead of time so we had great seats and the music was great. Great way to spend a Saturday night.

“nice, casual place to go for jazz”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

we went to Jazz showcase on a weeknight. The place was pretty packed! The parking is only $5, entrance fee $10. Not too bad for downtown Chicago.
We took our 2 kids there, and there were other kids around. The volume of music might be tad loud for infants, but toddlers on up is fine. I recommend going there with family.

“Three Years Later and I Am Still Thinking About It”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2013

I am thinking about going back to Chicago in the next few months. "What should we do?" We've been a few times so I was looking for anything "different." One of the first things that came to my mind was "The Jazz Showcase." We rolled into this place for the late show, after a Jazz Festival. The place was definitely not packed. It took cash only. We were hungry, they served no food. But, we got a nice welcome so took the risk. It was incredible. The staff got us some food from next door (best Tater Tots I've ever had), the music was sublime, and it felt like an intimate jazz experience. This really is worthwhile if you like jazz, not jazz festivals, jazz acts, jazz shows, but the experience of jazz, i.e., falling into some local hole-in-the-wall and serendipitously finding the next big thing in jazz...or not. Go and be able to say you did something off-the-beaten-Chicago-trail tonight.

“Intimate setting for jazz”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2013

We caught Diane scoerr here. Cash only for tickets at the door, there is an ATM close by. They do take plastic for drinks. No drink minimum. No super large, but not overcrowded either. Warning the chairs are really cheap and they are uncomfortable, couches are too low to be able to see. Overall we had a nice time, sat with a local couple which was fun to meet and chat with locals.

“Good music, pleasant place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2013 via mobile

Went on a Sunday evening performance. Enjoyed it totally ! Very good music, clean, mostly unplugged sound, relaxing atmosphere, candles on tables, the place wasn't busy and that was even better. I was with my girlfriend, but would go again with friends also. Drinks are not cheap, but you don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. Will definitely go there again.
