“A gem from the Gilded Age”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Traveling to Chicago often we've walked past the mansion many times but never realized what a gem awaited us. It was a bitterly cold day and the museum was a very pleasant way to spend 90 minutes. There are 3 options for the visit: self guided with descriptions posted about various pieces in the room, using a recorded narrative or a guided tour with a historian. We arrived witin 5 minutes of the guided tour and learned so much about the families who lived there and so many additonal details about the woodwork, marble, furniture etc. The fact that our guide was extremely knowledgable, the added bonus of Mr. Driehaus' Tiffany collection, and free coat check made for a very enjoyable visit.

“Fabulous restoration”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

I used to work across the street from what was then called the Nickerson Mansion. The American College of Surgeons owned the property and I was only in the house one time years ago. Richard Driehaus has done a masterful job of restoring the house to its former glory. No expense was spared and it shows. Salamander fabrics, beautiful tiles and lighting have made this a show place. Docents are happy to answer questions and you really get to see what how the Nickerson family lived.

There are special tours available at times that show life below stairs and how the people who worked for the family lived. Special Christmas displays in December.

This is a real gem that is conveniently located only two blocks off of Michigan Avenue. A good place to go to combine shopping and a little lunch with a cultural activity.

“LIttle known treasure in Chicago”

This is an exceptionally well preserved, art deco flavored home that is really interesting to visit and to get a feel for some of the opulent times in Chicago's past.

“Highly recommended!”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

From the minute you walk in you realize you are somewhere special. Every room had beauty and warranted time to just take it in. The ceilings were works of art,the gorgeous carved woodwork, it is so hard to do it justice with the written word. We took the special Tiffany tour and would recommend it.
You are allowed to take your time, take pictures without flash and just immerse yourself in the opulence!
