“Great stay!!”
Reviewed 12 October 2010

I stayed at this hotel during the Chicago Marathon weekend and had a great stay. The hotel is central to just about everything in downtown Chigo and is very easy to access by the bus or rail transit system. I flew into Midway, jumped on the Orange line and a half hour later jumped off 2 blocks from the hotel. Both the hotel and the room were spotless. They have chilled purified water and bottles available on each floor, and three computers available to guests in the downstairs quarters. They had fruit and bottled water available to the runners in the lobby on the morning of the race-anice added touch for their guests. Every single person behind the desk that I talked to or had a question for was very friendly, professional, and well informed. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Nice clean, centrally-located hotel. Pleasant room was on the small side but clean and quiet. Nice feature, near the elevators on each floor was a cooler dispensing filtered water with a supply of 1/2 liter plastic bottles. Free wifi

What a wonderful hotel! The staff were all friendly and helpful, the room was spacious (even though some reviews say rooms are small...we only reserved a basic size) and it was very clean and comfortable. The location was fabulous...within walking distance to much of Chicago. The Chicago Marathon happened the Sunday of our trip. Even though the hotel was very busy, the service remained great. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and I will certainly be back. Loved it!!

My girlfriend and I stayed here the night before and after the Chicago Marathon on 10-10-10. The room the first night had some sort of issue with the AC unit where it would make some scraping/metallic sound every minute or so; despite the fact that I told 2 separate employees about it on Saturday, they told me to 'check back later' both times as they were near or at capacity. The room itself was pretty nice; had a fridge/microwave, flat screen and a stand up shower (no tub). Little cramped in spots but it had everything we needed.

After the race, I again complained to the desk clerk re: the AC unit and was immediately moved to a different room. He was apologetic and took care of the problem quickly. Hotel has a free gym, nice business type center and free (slow) wi-fi. The purified water on each floor was a nice touch too.

I spent one night here in September 2010. Overall, this hotel is an extremely good value. It is new, very clean, and efficiently operated. It is also in a great location on Adams, just a short walk from the Art Institute, Millenium Park and other attractions. The hotel is nothing fancy and doesn't bowl you over with amenities, but one shouldn't expect that for this price in this great location. The only "ding" I can really give it is that my 9th floor single room had extremely poor wireless reception. So slow my iPad wouldn't even connect.

Be forewarned: This hotel isn't smack in the middle of the action. The Loop is populated with office buildings and little else. If you want to be in the heart of the hotel/restaurant/shopping area, you'll need to take the 10 minute walk to River North and the Magnificent Mile.

I had to fly to Chicago at the last minute and needed to stay downtown in the loop. I was able to secure a great rate directly with the hotel. I found the check - in process decent but was somewhat put off by the $35 early check-in fee. If the room is already available and ready what difference does it make if you arrive at 2 PM or 10:00 AM?

I arrived at 10 AM and was eager to get some sleep. I was advised that no rooms were available until 3 PM but if I wanted to pay $35 for an early check in they would make one available. However, after 11:00 Am the fee is waived. Luckily they had a room available at 11:00 AM. The room was spacious enough for my purposes and the pillows were comfy. The bed itself was decent and I have slept on better so I give that a 7 out of 10 rating. The bathroom was on the small side but the amenities were decent enough. I did not like the fact that I had to go to a hallway to retrieve an iron and table.

I would stay here again if the price was right but would not stay here again if I found a comparable rate at another hotel with a stronger brand name and more amenities.

I just returned from a stay at the Central Loop hotel in Chicago. It’s a very good value in a fantastic location, but there are also a few things you should know about.

First, the Pro’s:

• Great value, considering the rates in “The Loop” area of Chicago. I paid $99/night.
• The location is perfect for exploring downtown. It’s right between the Art Institute and the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower. There are multiple restaurants and services within easy walking distance.
• Free bottled water. The hotel really seems to take the “green” theme seriously. There are empty water bottles on each floor with purified water dispensers for you to use as much as you want.
• The furnishings are relatively new and nice. Not overly luxurious though. I’d say they’re somewhere between a Best Western and a Westin.
• There are free computer workstations to use for printing out boarding passes (see note in Cons though)
• The hotel itself is very secure. Key cards are needed to operate the elevators as well as enter your room.
• The attached Elephant & Castle Pub. Very good food. Not a huge menu, but what there is is very good. Plus you get your room service from there.
• Free large chess sets in the lobby and lounge.

Cons:
• No safe in the room. This was a biggie for me as I had camera equipment I would have put in there. I asked the front desk about whether they had safe deposit boxes for use. They said “Yeah, we can, umm, rent them or let you use them”. Not overly confident. When I pushed further, they said they didn’t mean rent, they meant just use. I didn’t use them though as their answer didn’t inspire confidence.
• The “Free wireless” is exceptionally slow. I was there for 5 days (4 nights). Some days it was just okay and others it was virtually unusable. Note: The front desk was once again no help in troubleshooting any issues either: The in room instruction card tells you what network to join, but what it doesn’t tell you is that you need to open your browser (Safari, etc) and accept their terms and conditions every 24 hours to have access. It will look like you have a strong signal, but you won’t be able to access it until you do that step.
• The free computers to print boarding passes can also be excruciatingly slow. We tried for over an hour to print 3 boarding passes. We got 2 printed then finally gave up. Each web page was taking 2 minutes or more to load, then often failed and we had to restart at the beginning. I don’t know if this was temporary or what, because the wireless that night was also super slow.
• There is only one ice machine in the hotel. You’ll need to go to the 3rd floor to use it.
• The lowest category rooms (standard rooms) are VERY small. I’m talking cruise ship small. The bathroom was so small that when I sat on the toilet my knees were under the sink. No, I’m not kidding or exaggerating. My friends had both the next room category up, plus one had a suite. They were larger and I’d definitely recommend going for the higher categories (although the suite really isn’t a suite as it’s all one room)
• No refrigerator in the lowest category rooms.
• No fan in the bathrooms
• No movie channels of ANY kind (HBO, Showtime, PPV (of any kind))
• Valet parking only, and the valet’s don’t know any restaurants in the area, so don’t ask them.

So the bottom line is whether I’d stay there again. The answer is yes, but only in one of the higher category rooms and only if there wasn’t a hotel in that general neighborhood that had safes in rooms with a similar price.

Tip: Your GPS probably won't work to get you to the hotel once you're nearby with all the tall buildings nearby. Be sure to have printed directions or a map.

Hope that helps,
Mark
