Aside from the Italian bartender down on the ground floor who makes great drinks.. the rooms, the jail-like way they cram everybody in, the big desks and office like environment.. this place is all business. The coffee is fresh and you can get a good nights sleep before your next flight or meeting. You can work late - plug in and turn your room into your own office. In the morning you may get run over by luggage rollers from yuppies who take their job too serious - romping down the corridors in their high heels - not wanting to be late for another boring trade expo - or seminar. There was nothing really warm about my stay. Completely standard.

Overall this is a very nice property. I am a Hilton HHONORS member and stay in many Hilton properties, so I am comparing to other Hilton family hotels.

The Good: Convenient location, great movie theater next door, Walgreens on the corner, grocery store and Starbucks right across the street. There was a nice restaurant in the building, but I can't review that, as I didn't use it. Nice easy walk to Navy Pier. The lobby of this hotel is spacious and very beautiful. Waterfall in the center, lobby bar and breakfast area all nice. Like other Embassy Suites they have made the lobby bright, sunny and inviting. My room was very nice, king with a sofa bed, flat screen TV's and spacious bathroom. The room was decorated nicely, and VERY clean. All of the staff were wonderful, especially the Valet and bell staff. All of them went out of their way to make me feel like a valued guest, and they were very polite.

The Bad: Again, typical of Chicago, parking price is outrageous, $50 per night to valet... if you don't have to drive and park there, that would be beneficial to your wallet. Room was $249, but that's expected.

The Ugly: If you make me pick one bad thing, it was the breakfast. Yes, it's "Free" but WAY too crowded, unorganized, and to accommodate everyone they had extra tables set up everywhere. The food, average at best as far as the buffet line. If you make it through the custom hot breakfast line, that was much better, the omelet’s were very good, the chef's and other staff, again, VERY nice. :)

Hope this helps.

I took a school group here for a few nights on a field trip in Chicago. Great value for the price. Location was perfect for touristy things and walking distance to all sorts of things on Michigan Ave. Breakfast was amazing and the interior is maybe a little dated but still nice. The rooms are fairly basic but looked like the furnishing were fairly new. Great views in every one of our 10 rooms. The pool was too small and too chlorinated but that was the only downside to our stay.

Stayed on the lakeview side of this hotel and initially had a room almost to the top floor, and had to ask to move lower as there was so much glass everywhere that some in our family were not comfortable with the height. That being said, if you are similar, request one of the lower floors where you still will have a spectacular view in a gorgeous hotel. Location is great for walking to Navy Pier. Went to Boston Blackies for burgers, fries, rings and great beer and good prices.

The hotel itself was nice and clean, and all of the staff courteous and helpful... but at breakfast (there's an AMAZING complimentary breakfast buffet), we were greeted by an Embassy Suites employee named Shirley. Shirley greeted us with a gentle smile, a warm welcome and quick guidance on the different nuances of the breakfast buffet layout. She was a ray of sunshine to start the day for us! After we had gotten our food, we were able to watch Shirley greet EVERY patron with the same warm smile and helpful guidance on how to navigate the buffet. Some folks were hesitant to accept the guidance.. and walked right past her - not allowing her to share her warmth. Those folks missed out on a little bit of sunshine. Thanks so much for your example today, Shirley! You are the epitome of Ephesians 6:7: "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people"

BREAKFAST:
The breakfast buffet was amazing, self serve hot line (eggs, bacon) and made to order omelets. 3-4 different types of donuts / pastries. Fruit was typically bananas, oranges, and cantalope or watermelon. Pancakes with syrup or blueberries also available. Cereal, yogurt, and granola also available. Very impressed with food quality and selection for a free included breakfast.

ROOM:
Living area of suite very spacious. Rooms have microwave and fridge. Bed very comfortable, pillows were the only negative - but they were pretty standard for hotels these days - down pillows that are very soft/squishy where your head sinks into the pillow.

SERVICE:
Guest Check In: Great job, also provided a free surprise dessert / treat in our room upon arrival for my husband's birthday.
Concierge - Not available after 5pm. :-( We did not get much help regarding touristy attraction info - which seems like an everyday concierge request. We actually stopped in another hotel and received the help we needed.

OVERALL - Despite negative/opportunities listed we would definitely stay here again. The rooms were quiet and clean, bed very comfortable, breakfast was excellent and this was about 2 blocks north of the canal and 3 blocks west of Navy Pier. Great hotel & convenient location.

We stayed here over the Labor Day weekend while visiting Chicago. The hotel was easy to find and the staff were very helpful and the room was clean and great. But the trip from the elevators to the room was scary because we were on the 17th floor and there was only a glass, waist-high wall separating us from plunging at least 12 floors down. I realize this is the design of Embassy Suites to have the rooms on the perimeter of an atrium and have stayed at them before without having a problem. So I'm not sure if it was the glass or what, but this one made all of us uncomfortable to walk along the hall. Probably also particularly scary because of having children with us.

Other than the walkway, the only other complaint I heard from my family was that the breakfast food was cold. As for the amenities - the pool and hot tub were ok but small. They also were of an older design and probably could use upgrading.
