On a fairly recent trip to Chicago, I split my time between the Sofitel and Dana Hotels. The Sofitel is a polished, modern, hip, yet comfortable hotel. More sophisticated and grown up than a W or the Dana. I stayed 3 nights in a very nice suite. I appreciated the great windows/light, comfortable furniture and best designed and functional storage/luggage areas I may have ever seen in a hotel. The bathroom was also very spacious and featured Hermes toiletries. (Overall the rooms/hotel were not as plush or refined as a Four Seasons, but perhaps equal to Park Hyatt or similar.) Standard rooms though very nice, are certainly less impressive and I actually would probably select the Dana Hotel for their excellent basic amenities/rooms, if my budget did not allow for a suite.
The best and most unexpected feature of the Sofitel to me was the wonderful lobby restaurant. Daily breakfast was included in my package and to my delight, it was impressive and delicious. We also enjoyed an amazing 5 course dinner, thank to the very talented and charming French head chef that went out of his way to make us an incredible meal. (I apologize for forgetting his name!) Service and food all around was fantastic but if you eat one meal there, I have to say the breakfasts really stood out. It's worth a special trip even if you are not a guest of the hotel. One of the best I have had in Chicago! On the weak side, the fitness facilities are limited and there is no on-site spa/pool. Also, I never received a chocolate tray that was supposed to be included in my package, but the over-the-top meal provided by the chef more than made up for it.

I am extremely picky and a self proclaimed hotel snob. Overall, I was very impressed with the Sofitel and will be glad to return. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fair value in a stylish, luxurious, sophisticated hotel in a great location- as long as you are ok with the limited amenities.

Excellent modern hotel with very professional and polite staff who gave first class service.

Our room was fine (stayed 7 nights) and I think we were upgraded at reception - other than the fact we asked for a two bedded room to accomodate our son but he had to sleep on the floor in a blown up type lilo which took up space near the window in the room really meant only for two people. We could not locate an option of a twin queen bedded room in the hotel on the Hotels.com website. The bathroom was superb with a separate shower cubicle as well as bath which was probably the main part of the upgrade.

Nice small internet areas on the 2nd and 3rd flloors which we used each day with 3 PCS on floor 2 and 2 on floor 3 if I remember correctly. Good view out of high location floor window towards lake Michigan visible between other high rise towers including the Hancock Tower which has a magnificent viewing deck with perhaps better viewing than from the Sears Tower.

The hotel was a very modern type. Several excellent fast lifts to choose from. Hotel is 100 yeards from the Magnificent Mile shops including Tiffany's, Saks, Nike Town, Apple, Hersheys and Ghirardelli's stores. We ate breakfast at the corner cafe 100 yards from the hotel which was truly excellent and much cheaper than the hotel as you would expect.
The hotel beds were the best I have slept in - very comfortable and better than the Westin heavenley beds

Ate what we had was the best meal ever (if you like steak) at Mortons Steakhouse on State Street - 10 mins walk from the hotel. This is the original one out of now 80 in the USA and worldwide. Photos of many stars who have eaten there from Oprah Winfrey - Muhammad Ali - Gordon Ramsey included. Also ate at Mike Ditka's Steakhouse which was also excellent and is 100 yards from the hotel as you walk towards the Hancock Tower. Mike Ditka is the famous coach of the Chicago Bears who won the Superbowl 20 years ago. There are signed shirts of Michael Jordan and others who have eaten there.

The bellboy offerred to call a limo for us on leaving and we got an excellent ride in a big black limo to the airport for $50 or so. There are normal taxis always outside the hotel but for $10 more the limo was excellent.

I would happily stay there again. We chose it as it was No 2 in the TripAdvisor Guide to Chicago Hotels and not too expensive for a 4 star hotel well recommended in an excellent location near the historic Chicago Water Tower. Lake Michigan is walkable in 10 mins as is one of the beaches which Chicago has and Oprah Winfrey lives in a block overlooking this beach. Jerry Springer lives in the Hancock Tower 200 yards from this little beach.

My wife and I spent 3 days at the Sofitel . We found the hotel to be first rate and deserving of the positive reviews given by other visitors. It is in a great location close to good restaurants live music and an easy walk to most of the sights. A minor crticism I found the was that the breakfast rates were excessive and would recommend a visit to nearby cafes for a better value alternative. The staff were professional and helpful and I would recommend this hotel .

Stayed for 4 nights with wife and friends. We had 2 junior suites which were stylish, reasonably sized, had super bathrooms and fantastic large super-comfortable beds. The area is first class, spotless chewing-gum free streets with plenty to do and see locally.

Some reservations however - 1 rooms not ready for check in and no offer of a drink or coffee while we waited (maybe we should have asked) 2 no hot water for 12 hours in one room. When resolved a compensation offer of a 50% reduction in phone calls from room was turned down (costs were $120 for 3 five minute calls to England. Eventually accepted waiving of costs plus free breakfast for the four of us. 3 We were not told there was complimentary morning coffee until we were leaving.

The room was very comfortable. The bathroom probably one of the best I have ever seen in a hotel. It is spacious, well equipped, and clean. The room was attended to twice a day. Computer access is free - very unusual for an upmarket hotel.

I stayed here for one night with my guy for a shopping trip. The location is great, on a relatively quiet street but just blocks away great shopping (and my favourite lingerie shoppe :) & a very busy Michigan st!
The guy at the front desk was friendly and check in was quick - we were able to get a room about an hour before the official check-in time (and got a coupon for $30 off our next stay too :) He made great recommendations for bars and joked that my guy should keep an eye on me while we're out since the area is known as "the viagra triangle" lol
The room is a bit small for two people but good for a nights stay. The bathroom is pretty big - separate tub, shower, plenty of counter space, and a makeup mirror that came in handy. my one issue with the rooms - our mobiles had terrible service unless we stood just next to the window - but i guess the hotel cant really help that!
the bar is very, well, sexy and chic and great for an aperitif and the bartender makes a mean dirty martini. or in my case, several mean dirty martinis.. didnt have a chance to scope out the wine list or anything
Overall this is a great hotel, really up to par with other Sofitels I've stayed at. Good, friendly service, comfortable rooms/bathrooms, and an amazing location just steps away from world class shopping. I will definitely be back.. and putting that coupon to good use, lol

We stayed here over a weekend for two nights and booked our package online. The package we selected included 2 breakfasts and a dinner in the hotel restaurant for the same price as just booking the room, which turned out to be good value. The service was excellent and the concierge was extremely helpful in making recommendations. Check in was fast and the front desk gave us a room on the 31st floor (a nice city view) because he found out it was our anniversary. The restaurant was great as well (service and food and atmosphere). The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. Location of the hotel was great - it was on a quiet street but close to everything. I would definitely stay here agin and recommend it to my friends.
