“Wonderful Fresh Fish at a Great Price”

New England Seafood Company Fish Market

We dined here on a Thursday evening. My husband had the special of the day, grilled swordfish with pineapple salsa. I asked for grilled mahi mahi which was not on the menu, but since it is a seafood market, they happily accomodated me. Both were delicious and came with crisp veggies and cole slaw. Love the fact that it is a casual BYOB and it is very convenient to the L. We'll be back next time we're in Chicago!

I like the casualness of the place. The food comes out of the kitchen on paper plates with plastic silverware on a plastic tray. I ordered the lobster bisque and a lobster roll. My wife had the special: Mussels with chorizo and the cioppino. In two minutes flat, someone came out of the kitchen with a lobster roll and ... clam chowder. I knew it wasn't what I ordered but I couldn't help myself. I tried a couple of spoonfuls. Then the cook came out of the kitchen and said "I think we got your order messed up." He advised me that the lobster bisque would be coming right out. I told him I tried the clam chowder and thought it was good. Big bits of bivalve in very flavorful milky goodness. So, he left it on the table on brought out the lobster bisque. It reminded me of the great lobster bisque from the gone but not forgotten Tavern on the Green in New York. Two soups for the price of one. Nice!

But where was my wife's food? Waiting. Waiting. Ah, here it comes. C'mon! Please serve our dishes at the same time. Her cioppino seemed to be lacking seafood, but the soup itself was spicy and flavorful. My lobster roll actually became more buttery as it sat on my tray. I advised the woman behind the counter that the mussels special was good, but it simply must be served with crusty bread for soaking up the broth in the bottom. She apologized profusely and said the dish was supposed to come with bread. So ... another misstep.

The good news is they got the food right. Also, the fish for sale looks super fresh. Service needs to improve but service can be taught. It's a great concept. I hope they are around the Chicago dining scene for a long time.

We went to this restaurant to have lunch and l loved the experience!
It's a small and simple place with good seafood.
I tasted the clam chowder and the lobster roll, they were terrific! The soup has clams and potato, it's very tasty! The lobster roll has huge pieces of lobster, it's awesome!
Now I'am a fan of this place! The only issue is that they use plastic plates and spoons/ forks/ knifes... I hope they recycle everything!
