I travel frequently for work and my experience at the River Hotel has been one of the most amazing hotel experiences I have ever had. When I arrived, I was immediatly greeted and checked in. The young man checking me in gave me a complimentary room upgrade with an amazing view of the trump tower and river. The entire staff was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make my stay incredible. I stayed for 4 nights and will definitely return. Free wifi, bottled water, and the livingroom area with latte machine and complimentary snacks are unheard of in downtown Chicago, especially with such an incredible rate. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this hotel is!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

Great hotel on the river. Spacious rooms, great view of river and skyline (Trump Tower, Tribune etc) The staff was friendly as others mention. Great outdoor restaurant connected to lobby. The valet parking is expensive and we will explore the public self-parking next time. Hotel location is not far to El stations. We walked down river-walk toward Navy Pier and all the way to Grant Park on the lakefront bike path and it was a lovely and very enjoyable long walk. There was a convenient 7-11 1/2 block from hotel and a corner bakery 2 doors down. We ate at Miller's Tavern which was a fun place on Wabash. We would love to return.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor and had a wonderful view of the river. I suppose higher floors would have...

Great location with clean, comfortable rooms and with a friendly, helpful staff that went out of their way to be of assistance each and every time we requested anything large or small. Roman,Pedro,Tim,Gerard and Jay were all wonderful to work with. River Hotel even has an arrangement with a superb workout facility; Lakeshore Sport and Fitness. All this at a very reasonable price. A real bargin.

River hotel had a great location near mag. Mile very near loop. Room was nice. Some of the restaurant recommendations were chains, which we didn't want, but when inquired of local places, good places were mentioned. Very clean and thermostat convenient. Pedro service manager was especially helpful. All in all, liked the stay and would return.

Stayed with my family here and we loved its location and friendly customer services especially from the front desk (Pedro) and cleaning services. I would highly recommend it for business and leisure stay as it is centrally located, proximity to shopping malls, restaurants and the Millennium Park.

I stayed 2 weekend nights at the hotel as a solo female. It would be a great hotel for someone traveling for business. The location was excellent! You can tell it is an older building but I enjoyed the architecture and they have really upgraded it nicely. The people at the front desk were wonderfully helpful! A luggage rack would make a nice addition but that's really nitpicking.

My only complaint is that when I went to hop in the bed my first night there after checking in fairly late at night was that my bed was wet. They resolved the matter very quickly and professionally and even brought me a completely new mattress without my asking. I was just surprised that there was no mention of it when I checked out and it was not reflected in my final bill.
Overall however, I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

Finally, just a warning to first time travelers to Chicago: The city has some pretty high taxes, so just be prepared to spend a lot more on your room than what the website has for the nightly rate when you book. :-)
