I spent a week at the Hotel Lincoln while taking classes at Second City. The location is perfect as it's only a few blocks away, plus conveniently close to both bus and train stations. Lincoln Park directly in front of the hotel is perfect for a morning walk and you can easily get anywhere from the hotel.
The staff is the hotel's best feature. Friendly, helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable about the city. They were absolutely fantastic! From lending umbrellas during the rain to anticipating the need for a taxi, they were great.
Although breakfast is not included, and room service limited to certain hours during the day, both the restaurant downstairs and the coffee shop were reasonably priced with tasty and healthy meal options. The coffee shop only offered the same options every day - that could be varied. The restaurant/bar on the roof top is spectacular, however it was a bit disconcerting to have so many people up and down in various levels of inebriation. I prefer a bit more security.
I was upgraded to a junior suite which was large and felt like a small apartment, which was great as I was there all week. Everything was clean and well-attended, however they changed the towels each day even when I hadn't put them on the floor to conserve water.
The building itself is older, and the carpet in the hallways is atrocious, but the rest of the hotel is attractively decorated. Some of the woodwork and door frames are banged up from wear and tear and could use replacing.
