Actually, it wasn't small and the black strap gave it a great taste. Nice atmosphere. Not dead and not busy on a Tuesday night.

Drinks are fun and different... Staff is more then happy to make suggestions or even find out what you like and mix something custom up. It's a little far from where I was staying but the experience was worth it... Does not serve food but there is a great Tapas place across the street!

Don't come in here looking for a quick G&T or Rum&Coke. This small, intimate cocktail bar is for those looking to expand their palettes. We went on a weekday evening and nearly every seat was taken. The bartender presented us with the well done and rather large drink menu. He was great at explaining the menu and what sets this cocktail bar apart from the fast food approach to so many other bars. I had a Dark & Stormy and my friend ordered a Gin Flip, complete with fresh egg whites. The bartender took great pride in his work and was happy to chat with us about other types of drinks. The average cocktail runs about 11 USD and they are worth every penny.

We had read good things about Elixir, and were overly pleased that our experience exceeded our expectations. We were immediately greeted at the door, and while there was no seats available, we were escorted to "Jake" who offered us menus and drink recommendations. Jake is a natural at this - like a fortune teller, he knew our tastes before we even mentioned them, and he suggested and served the perfect cocktails. He also is hilariously entertaining and fun to chat with. The lounge is cozy, intimate, and has a great vibe - but Jake made our experience one we went back a few days later (impressive for a short vacation!) to recreate. Sadly, Jake was not there - but we still had an excellent evening at Elixir.

I have been frequenting this lounge for nearly a year and have enjoyed every visit. The cocktail selection is large and distinctive, with a variety of martinis, classic cocktails, cordials, cognacs and wine. There is also a variety of spirits one may try on the rocks if one so chooses. My favorite evenings to go are Mondays, when it is half off all signature martinis, and Wednesdays, when it is half off wine bottles and beer. The setting is dark and subdued and the front windows open up on nice evenings. It's a great place to go after work or for a night cap with a friend or two. I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups as the venue is on the smaller side (which I think is a plus - rowdy groups tend to stay away). The bartender is always phenomenal and extremely pleasant, making you feel welcome and appreciated.

If you are looking for cheap drinks this is not the venue. You will pay a premium for cocktails here - usually $11. The variety and uniqueness, however, makes it worth the money, and every weekday there is a different special (though you will need to call to find out what the special of the day is since it is not posted on their website). If you're tired of the loud, raucous bars of Boystown and Wrigleyville and just want a place where you can sit, relax, and enjoy some fine ambiance and an amazing cocktail with a friend (or alone!), than you have to check this place out.
