Owner description: The Second City is the world's premiere comedy theatre offering the best in Chicago-style sketch and improv comedy every night of the week and has launched the careers of Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and many, many others. First, let’s define a few terms so we’re all on the same page. Sketch comedy is scripted, well-rehearsed scenes that we never, ever call “skits.” (And most of us are mighty touchy about that one. Improv is the unscripted, spontaneous, collaborative art form Second City is famous for. Stand-Up is the classic one-comic-on-stage-with-a-mic-telling-jokes routine. Think Jerry Seinfeld against a brick wall. Typically, any stand-up performances at Second City happen in the UP Comedy Club. A classic Second City revue is made up of original sketches and songs sprinkled with a healthy dose of our world-famous improv. Second City productions are fully written and rehearsed, but no two shows are ever the same.

We love improv and sketch comedy and we frequent the P.I.T and the magnet in New York. So when we realize we are in Chicago we knew we must go to Second City. Went to the Friday show of Grapes Of Wreath and it was G R E A T. very funny, very x very smart, and super talented group of performers. Highly recommended. Also there were a few teenagers in the crowed and as a parent I thought the show was tamed enough for kids say 14 and up.

We saw Depraved New World and had a great night. This was a fun way to spend the night. We paid extra to get the rail seats, and that was a great choice. All the other seats seemed very cramped.

If your in town you owe it to yourself to see a performance. Lots of laughs in an intimate setting, they always seem to do improv. at the end of the show, don't be shy and yell up to the stage when they ask for suggestions.

We go to a show every time we visit Chicago- always the highlight of the trip. The wait staff does a great job serving drinks to the crowd in less than roomy conditions. We caught the 38th review recently; very funny and we had a great time laughing. Will return as often as possible!

I had been to other Second City shows, both on cruise ships and in their companies in Las Vegas and Detroit (Novi). This was the first time I had visited the Second City in Chicago. I expected that the Chicago performers would be of a higher caliber than the performers I had seen previously, and I was right. The show I saw (Second City Summer Blockbuster) was very funny -- the performers were exceedingly good at the the improv portion of the shows, and even treated us to a bit of extra material they had been working on after the regular show concluded. In total, the Second City in Chicago is highly recommended.
