“The Most Inattentive I-Don't-Care Staff Ever Seen”

We selected this hotel because of its proximity to the Amtrak Station. We were just using it as a quick way-station between the train one day and a flight the next.

I cannot understand why Crowne Plaza is considered upscale. The accommodations are certainly acceptable, but not much more – and the service at this location was appalling.

I called a couple weeks before my stay and there was no answer for five + minutes.

My next phone experience was after check-in. The ventilation system didn’t work, so I telephoned for assistance. The operator put me through to front desk and it went straight to voice mail!! I tried again and no operator picked up at all. My husband finally went down to the front desk which was unattended; he had to search for someone to help him.

With 398 guest rooms, you would think someone would be minding the place.

When my husband finally located someone, they told him that they’d send someone up to take care of the problem. I called down to ask when he’d get there and I was told (verbatim): “When he knocks on your door.”

When the man arrived, we showed him the wall unit and demonstrated that turning the dial did nothing. He says, no, you have to use the thermostat – which was way on the other side of the room. We didn’t even see it and apparently the front desk personnel didn’t know anything about it, as I learned when I later explained what happened to the in case another guest had a similar experience.

And the system didn’t work anyhow. There is no setting for “fan.” It is either AC or heat with an automatic turn-off when the room reaches the desired temperature; we had to keep adjusting the temperature all night.

Although there was a balcony, we couldn’t leave it open it for fresh air because of the roar of traffic from the adjacent expressway.

The hotel is nice, but next to the hotel is a public ground where live bands play almost every other night. So in case you are looking for a quite hotel, this is not the place to be. The facilities in the hotel is nice and staff is friendsly

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza Metro because I was in town for a convention and it was one of the few hotels with availability at under $400 a night (just) for a late booking. OK, I know they are running a business, but.... where were the staff. Waited 10 minutes for check in because there was only one person at the desk and so it was throughout my 4 day stay, although surprisingly there were always at least 2 bell hops taking care of the $36/day "valet only" parking. There is no concierge service at this hotel either. I arrived very early so had breakfast in the restaurant which was also completely understaffed so I just got up and helped myself to the (very poor) breakfast buffet.

The room was a large, corner room on the 14th floor "quiet zone" and it certainly was quiet. However, this particular corner of the hotel overlooked the freeway so I can't believe that there wasn't better window glazing to cut down on the traffic noise.

All in all I would have felt aggrieved paying $200/night let alone the near $400 it was costing (including taxes).

Pretty poor show!

I stayed at this hotel with for a girls friends weekend in Chicago. The hotel was very clean and the staff were all friendly. It is a bit of a walk to the Mag Mile but in comfy shoes it is not a problem. The public transit system is very easy to use and we hoped on and off a few buses while sight-seeing.

The hotel was in Greektown so there were lots of great restaurents to choose from right outside the door.

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. Actually located in the West Loop just west of the river on the Sears Tower side of the city. Kinda nice since you are not in the overcrowded Michigan Avenue area and can breath a little bit. Right next to Greek Town with great Greek restaurants within a block of the hotel. Very nice rooms and main areas. Would definitely stay there again. The only negative was there is only valet parking and it was very expensive. I want to say $39 per day but check the hotel's web site to verify this. Beds were too hard but got used to them.

I can walk next door the Walgreens, the door men know *Everything* there is always a cab, I can get to union station on foot in a block or two. I don't need a car to get everywhere but there is always a cab. The food is fantastic. The only downer we had was the computers in the resturant kept crashing. the name is Micros, must be junk becuase everthing else was perfect from the room to the staff. Even the Valet had their act together.

I travel constantly - nationally and internationally - and this is one on the best values ever. Don't be discouraged by the lobby. The rooms are contemporary and beautifully designed - including the bathroom. Bed and linens rival the $400-500 a night hotels. The coffee service includes half and half and complimentary bottled water. Staff is friendly. At $165 per night, this is an incredible bargain! I've paid 3 times as much for the same type of room in a more elegant hotel.
