Owner description: Chicago's landmark is considered one of America's finest fountains due to its Beaux-Arts-style landscape design, finely wrought bronze sculpture and innovative use of technology.

As a native, this is one of my favorite summer spots. It's beautiful during the day and quite magnificent at night, with all the colorful lights. There are benches all around, as well as indoor restrooms. Walk north and south to see the beautiful flowers in Grant Park. Walk across Michigan Ave (at the crosswalk!) and walk along the lake. A great way to spend an hour or two on a summer afternoon!

There was some kind of festival going on in Grant park that forced us to walk the perimeter of the park making the walk longer. However it was totally worth the hike! This is a must see and I recommend going at night! Beautiful!

This beautiful fountain MUST be on your list of places to visit in Chicago. It is on Lake Michigan and within walking distance of another great site, Millennium Park.

The Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain was built in the 1920's. You'll also love the surrounding area. It's a great walk in any direction.

While in operation, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain produces a major water display and the center jet shoots 150 feet into the air. The initial major display begins at 9:00 a.m. and thereafter, is every hour on the hour. Beginning at dusk, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain's major water display is accompanied by a major light and music display. The final display of the evening begins at 10:35 p.m.

You may read about its history and see pictures on the Chicago Park District website.

Enjoy!

Gorgeous spot for views of the lake and city. The park is completely walkable to get to the fountain. Great cafes across the street.
