“Fabulous!! Comfortable and complimentary breakfast and reception wonderful!”
Reviewed 20 July 2009

My sister and I just returned from a weekend in Chicago and stayed at the Amalfi. We found an amazing rate on Travelzoo that included valet parking. We called ahead to get early check in since we were going to arrive earlier than expected and the staff was more than happy to accomodate us. The lobby was small but nicely decorated with modern decor. There are only 6 floors in this hotel and our room was on the 5th floor on the back side, Our view was of a small parking lot and a few hotels and condos. I can't imagine that the front rooms have any better views, but we weren't in our room long enough to care about the view anyway. The breakfast on each floor was very nice- donuts, patries, bagels, yogurt, fruit, as well as coffee, teas, and juices- and you take it back to your room. The room was nice and the bathroom was spacious with a rounded shower curtain, lighted make up mirror with seat, and aveda products. The rooms have nice flat screen lcd/plasma tvs, wifi, iron/ironing board, safe, hairdryer, dvd/cd player and writing desk. The minibar was stocked with snacks and drinks that weren't too ridicuously overpriced but still to pricey for me. They have a fitness room that has 3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, and 2 bikes, as well as free weights. The fitmess room also has filtered water, towels, and 2 tvs. The highlight of our stay was the complimentary evening reception with cocktails/beer and food. The location is great and we walked everywhere during the daytime. It's one block north of the river and a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Ave. The House of Blues is across the street as well. There is a CVS a block away, Keefers restaurant next to it, Harry Carey's across the street(which is where the room service is from which is somewhat expensive), and many restaurants in the area. They offer in room spa services but it was too pricey for us to indulge in that luxury. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help with anything! If you are looking for an affordable hotel in a great location with free breakfast and reception, this hotel is must!

unfortunately for us we arrived on the fourth of July at 4pm and our room was not ready as the hotel had been so busy. After travelling for 12 hours we were not very happy so we accepted a room that was inferior to what we had paid for just to get checked in. We could have changed rooms later but as we were there for only 4 days it was just not worth the hassle.
Now for the positve!!!! Hotel staff were always friendly and could not do enough to help with any questions we had. The complimentary breakfast was very welcome and taking it back to our room was good as we did not have that much time in Chicago. The cocktails in the evening were fantastic, the bar staff were great and you could have almost anything you wanted to drink. It was a lovely start to the evening. A special thanks has to go to the "heating engineer" or whatever their name is for him. We could not get our aircon right in our room and he really went out of his way to help. Well done Amalfi your people are great.

I stayed at the Amalfi for a week while attending a training class in Chicago. This was the best hotel to stay at as far as value and location. They didn't have many amenities but was smack in the middle of downtown and within walking distance to just about EVERYTHING in Chicago. The price was really great and the hotel was just remodeled so it was really clean and trendy. Free Wi-Fi in the rooms and free hors d'œuvre /drinks every day in the comfortable lounge. There is no restaurant in the hotel but it's right across the street from Harry Caray's restaurant and room service is from the same restaurant.

My decision to book our rooms at the Amalfi Chicago for our extended stay for almost a week with our family was without a doubt the best stay in our years of travel. We had a late arrival and had a long flight. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with smiles from the staff , extremely courteous and eager to help. Our check in was fast and smooth. There is a sense of luxury, calmness and comfort when you walk in.

The breakfast on our floor was a delight. The coffee was just steps from our room...to me that was a very big plus. The free cocktails and appetizers in their lounge are fabulous. The staff behind the bar were friendly and of course they have a glass jar for tips which we thought was appropriate.
Excellent way to relax, enjoy a drink, a snack and go back touring, shopping , a show or late dinner.
Hotel is walking distance to many restaurants., Blocks from shopping and touring sights.
Very pleasant rooms and quite comfortable. After a long day of touring, their pillows are simply the best.
Karine their Experience Designer is absolutely amazing ! She was a "great" help with getting tickets, directions, making suggestions, and transportation information to destinations and making our stay definitely a memorable one. All of Amalfi’s staff was very helpful and make you feel so welcomed.
Little did I know this hotel would make my first trip to Chicago a beautiful experience. I have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels, I must say this hotel has outstanding service !outstanding staff ! outstanding location ! Has beautiful decor.

The lobby is small and does not have the high floors you’d expect ... I must say , staying here was the best choice in hotels I have made in all my years of traveling. I will definitely come back and will recommend this hotel to my family and friends for business and leisure.

Found this hotel on expedia and then read reviews on tripadvisor berore booking.. Wonderful service; easy check in. Valet parking only which was a little pricy. The lobby is beautifully done and so was the room. Great toiletries by Aveda. Continental breakfast provided on each floor in the elevator lobby. Nightly cocktail hour with drink tickets provided at checkin. No complaints whatsoever. Would definitely stay again.

Staying at the Amalfi is the tale of two halves. The hotel as a facility is very nice with quiet rooms, comfortable beds and a nice gym.

However, the breakfast was mediocre at best (stale coffee and bread) and traveling up a floor for a toaster is senseless (they had to buy a lot of equipment so why not a toaster for each floor). It appears that the staff cut backs (assumed) have started to take its toll on the hotel's overall quality.

The final straw was when I called to ask for a late check-out and was told that the cleaning staff had said that no more late check-outs were allowed for today.

Enjoy the room but don't bank on the little extras (like you read elsewhere for this review) until the economy picks up.

We stayed at the Amalfi Hotel on the weekend of June 13th. With lots of events in Chicago that weekend, many of the places we tried to book first were full. We found a decent rate at the Amalfi, which included parking, complimentary cocktails, and a light breakfast (total cost was $299 including tax).

We really liked the room. It was clean and beautifully decorated with some nice extra touches (such as good magazines), the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathroom had Aveda products and a fantastic double shower-head. The in-room heating and cooling system was quiet and worked well. The lobby was upscale, and the check-in and check-out were streamlined and very fast. All staff were friendly and courteous.

We did take advantage of the complimentary cocktail hour in the lounge - we got there about 15 minutes prior to the end, and there was a long line for the bar, but it moved fairly quickly and we were able to get our drinks and relax in a quiet corner. They serve some light appetizers along with top-shelf liquor.

Breakfast was basic (coffee, juices, fruit, yogurt, bagels and muffins) but adequate. It is served on each floor, which is really convenient.

We also liked the location of the hotel - it is very central and close to lots of downtown destinations. Obviously, on a summer weekend, many of our fellow guests were there to enjoy the downtown area, so there was a little noise from party-goers and some street noise, but nothing significant.

Overall, the price was not a bargain, but we felt we definitely got what we paid for and we would make this one of our first choices for a return trip.
