I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on March 17 & 18th. Due to it being St. Patrick's Day in Chicago, the hotel was very busy. Enjoyed the location, price, breakfast and nice, clean room. However, the "bartender" in the lounge was unwelcoming at best - perhaps the hotel mangement is unaware that this man needs to work away from customers?? It was perhaps understandable on Saturday nite, as the lounge was packed, but he was just as surly on Sunday, when the lounge was almost empty! His attitude was the only negative in an otherwise nice stay.

I was a little intimated by the very hip check in "desk" and the very retro type colors of yellow and orange but once I adjusted to the lobby I absolutely loved my stay. The hotel was very, very clean
and the afternoon Manager reception was quite nice with appetizers and beverages of your choice. I would definately stay at this hotel on return trips. Loved it!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Amalfi. Booking on line was easy, and the staff quickly responded to emails I sent. Following the advice of other TA members, I requested a front facing room on a higher floor, adding that the reason I was requesting such a room was to enjoy a romantic getaway with my wife.

Check in was cordial and laid back, and the staff was very helpful. Our room was on the 6th floor and was plenty spacious for us, with a large comfy bed, 2 phones, a selection of books and cds, and a dual head shower. The water works in the bathroom were perfect - instant hot water both in the sink and the shower. The breakfast was better than most continental breakfasts, with a decent tea selection, regular and decaf coffee, yogurt (which disappeared quickly), fresh fruit, mini bagels, croissants, breads, etc.

An unexpected surprise was waiting for us after we returned to our room from a night on the town. Turndown service for us included not only chocolates on the pillows, but also a bottle of chilled champagne, 2 glasses and a box of wine truffles. Also included was a card wishing us an enjoyable stay. This was completely unexpected and shows that they pay more than the usual attention to their guests. When I requested my room I was not fishing for extras, but it is nice to know that some hotels are willing to go the extra mile. We would definitely stay here again.

Also, following the advice from the forums, we parked 2 blocks away at the Sterling Self Park and spent only $16/day for weekend parking as apposed to $37/day at the hotel. The self park has a special - if you park after 3pm on weekends it's only $6 for 24hrs.

We spent two nights at the Amalfi. After reading some of the reviews, I sent an e-mail to the hotel to request a quiet room, facing the front, rather than the back side of the hotel (where the loading dock and dumpsters are located). I received a response very promptly and was told that a room on the fifth floor with view on the city had been blocked for us. The room was extremely nice: king-size bed, big windows, very nice soothing decor. The first impression was one of cleanliness. The room smelled good, and everything looked impeccable. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linens of excellent quality, the bath products very nice. Little details I should mention: nice lamps, nice TV with CD and DVD player (DVDs can be borrowed free of charge at the front desk, and some CDs are already in the room), in-room coffee maker, nice closet with iron and ironing board and full-length mirror, magnifying mirror in the bathroom with different light settings for make-up, hair dryer, curved shower curtain rod that allows for more room in the tub/shower and makes it possible to take a shower without ever being in contact with the shower curtain, certificate showing the room is an allergy friendly room.
In addition, the manager's reception with great cocktails (Amalfitini and Amore for example) and a buffet with roasted vegetables, tapenade, cheese, foccacia, and a variety of Italian cold cuts is a really nice touch after a long arduous day of shopping! Of course, the lounge is small and seating is insufficient (especially on the weekend), but if you plan it right (arrive there early!), it makes for a very pleasant hour and a half. The breakfast buffet is another nice perk. A buffet is set across from the elevators on each floor: coffee, tea, juices, a variety of pastries, croissants, bagels, and fruit are available to take back to your room on a little tray that is provided. Very convenient!
All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel: friendly associates, quiet and comfortable rooms, convenient location with lots of restaurants in the vicinity (Avoid Redfish at all costs. We waited 55 minutes to be served after we ordered, the food was bad, the service inadequate, and our check --as well as the checks of our neighbors on each side-- was inaccurate. We could not wait to leave!) Good restaurant choices are Brasserie Jo for French food and Joe's Seafood Prime Steak & Stone Crab, among many others.
We will definitely consider this hotel next time we go to Chicago.

This hotel is in a wonderful location for sightseeing, shopping, walking to good restaurants, etc. The employees are very cordial and eager to help you with hotel procedures, find any information you need about Chicago, and do that extra thing that makes your day easier. Even though my husband and I could be their parents they showed no age bias or impatience with us. The breakfast buffet has a good selection and is served on each floor, and the evening reception is a nice way to wind down. I would definitely recommend the Amalfi.

Stayed here for two days in the first week in January, when hotel was very quiet. Got a big corner room. Staff are friendly, decor is modern, and there's a huge choice of pastries and cakes and breads for breakfast, which you take back to your room. The free hors d'oevres with the drinks are great antipasti - olives, breads, cheeses and meats, marinated vegetables. This was a really easy hotel to stay in, fairly central - a couple of blocks away from the 'L', and quiet, despite the building work opposite. If you're in Chicago, stay here.

I ended up at the Amalfi on a last minute deal, staying at the hotel for aruond $130 which is beyond a value. Here is what you should know about the hotel:

Fantastic location with incredible rooms - clean, comfortable beds, double headed shower with great water pressure, Aveda products, fantastic channel choices and quiet.

I am one of those traveler's who feels the need to disinfect a room as soon as I get there -- toilet, shower, remote control, phone -- and for the firs time ever, I didn't feel it was necessary.

On top of the greatness that the Amalfi is, there is a free breakfast every morning (on each individual floor) as well as free cocktail hour in the early evening. Lastly, the concierege and basically anyone working at the hotel are so friendly, kind and informative.

Is there anything wrong with the hotel? If you consider bad music playing in the lobby (think Scorpions, Cyndi Lauper) then that is the only downfall because honestly the lack of height (only 6 floors) is an afterthought after you stay at this hotel.

We love Chicago but our experience at the Amalfi made the trip much more enjoyable.
