“Great Location”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Excellent location in downtown Chicago. Rooms are spacious with nice views.
Staff are friendly & very helpful.
Overall convenient. It was the first time for me to stay @ Marriott Fairfield. I will surely consider more Fairfield stays in the future.

We needed to make an unexpected trip to Chicago, and were finding our usual choices booked. We finally found a King size room here, and we were very pleased with our accommodations. It was spacious, clean, and had a small fridge for our water bottles. We especially liked the roomy and bright breakfast area on the second floor. After we saw it, and found out there were many decent breakfast choices, we cancelled our plans to go in search of breakfast elsewhere. Though we personally found it too far to walk to our intended destination, the River North location was convenient to lots of trendy shopping and eateries. Bottom line...we were satisfied in all aspects.

I think it's one of my most favorite stays in Chicago. The staff made all the difference...friendly, very professional, helpful. From the front desk to the valet, all A+. It's squeaky clean, convenient, great breakfast, etc etc etc. The room was small but all I needed. Was very happy. Will definitely return. Thanks gang.

This hotel was in an ideal location...right in the heart of the city! We walked everywhere and there are two Metro stations nearby. The only thing that isn't the best is it is across from the Chicago Fire Department so we did hear a few fire trucks during our weekend stay, but the staff and hotel were still above par and I would recommend this place to anyone. I was traveling with my mother for her 66th birthday and the concierge gave her a birthday cupcake! The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had and always had suggestions for places to go whether it be for dinner or for sightseeing.

For the good points: We were enthusiastically greeted by Matthew the front desk manager. He made sure we were comfortable in our room. The room was great if you are traveling with children or teens. We had a separate area with sofa/sleeper, desk and tv. The other side of the room had 2 queens size beds, tv, micro, & fridge. The beds were ok not too lumpy yet. Although upon arrival we only had 3 bath towels for 4 people we called and they sent more towels up instantly. Any time we needed anything they were quick to respond. Great location close to many great restaurants, shopping and within walking distance to many attractions. Also, metro line close by. We loved that mass transit system is so easy to use. We bought a transit pass and used it all day for metro & bus. The breakfast staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good even though they served the same thing every morning. You had eggs, sausage, make your own waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, hot oatmeal with nuts, cinnamon, brown sugar etc, cereals and breads. Security to rooms was good as you had to have your key to get the elevator moving.

Now for the minor bad points: Even on the 12th floor you could hear the firetruck sirens - but only time it was a problem was on Saturday night. The rest of the time it was not bad at all. We opted to park our own vehicle. The parking fee was a bit steep, but we had in and out privileges. Just let the hotel know you want to park it yourself and they will provide you with a card to get into the garage. It was just 1 block over. There was not alot of room in the bathroom to store toiletries, etc. It is so easy to have built in shelves below the sink or have shelves built in on either side of the mirror, When you have 4 or max 5 people in a suite you need lots of room on the vanity or selves or hooks in bathroom! Also, the door had a gap of about 1/2 inch at the bottom that let in light from hallway and noise from the hallway. I know they slip you an invoice the night before your departure but you don't need that big of a gap on the bottom of the door.

Thank you very much for the kind review! It was a pleasure meeting you and your family and I am happy that you were able to enjoy your stay here in Chicago. Some nights are definitely busier than others when it comes to the Chicago Fire Department, however I am glad that the noise did not significantly impact your stay and that you still enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you back soon!

This new Fairfield Inn offers the current, typical Marriott offerings of up to date decor, a fairly complete free breakfast, etc. The rooms are adequate in size, though not huge; the bathroom is quite large and very, very nice. The staff is exceptional, and the LOCATION is what makes this a winner. Easy access to the subway, freeways via the Ohio/Ontario connector, walk to either the Michigan Ave. shopping area OR the Loop - the location is simply ideal. There are really great restaurants nearby, like Star of Siam (Thai) or Shaws Crab House (seafood) as well as the Bloomingdales Home Store, and POSH - it goes on and on. The lower floor rooms have limited, or no views - so ask about a higher floor room that clears the nearby low buildings if this is an issue to you. I used to live in this area so I would rather be out and about than to be looking out the window, but who doesn't like a view?

Someone who works in the hospitality industry in Chicago asked what were any downsides to this property. After consideration, I'd have to say that the lighting in the coffee bar area in our room was poor, and only one coffee and one decaf single cup packet were provided, and there were 2 of us. I asked at the desk and more coffee was placed in the room while we were out. That's it. Nothing else to complain about.

Room Tip: South facing rooms will will have a nice, sunny view BUT WILL ALSO look over a busy fire station, so...

My wife and I took a recent 4-day trip to Chicago with our adult child and her significant other. The trip also included my wife's family -- eight of us in all.

Having been frequent travelers to Chicago, it was our responsibility to reserve accommodations.

Since we would be driving to Chicago and the others would be taking the train, we were to arrive early in order to pick the others up from the train station located immediately west of Willis (formerly Sears) Tower. Our group would also be visiting a couple of Chicago's museums located south of the Chicago River. With all of these known details, we decided to venture away from our usual mid-Mag Mile locale in/around Ohio St. and looked for a hotel closer to the Chicago River.

The location of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Downtown/River North fit exactly to our needs.

The hotel, as described by it's name, is just a few blocks north of the river on Illinois St. The hotel is a new construction -- not a rehab. It first opened to the public on June 20,
2013.

Our specific rooms had two comfortable queen beds with a flat screen TV and all of the other normal accoutrements -- as well as a bonus space that included a sofa bed and a second flat screen TV. The hotel has only one room of this kind per floor so our two rooms were above/below each other. This was not inconvenient for us as it gave us a little "breathing room" if you will. The rooms were very comfortable and plenty large enough for our two families.

The hotel has excellent professional staff. The front desk staff gave us helpful pointers about the immediate area. We asked housekeeping to simply replace towels each day and that we didn't need a floor-to-ceiling cleaning each day. She gave us our towels as requested AND fit in a quick bathroom cleaning before we even realized she did anything.

While the hotel's location was great for us, some may balk at the across-the-street proximity of a Chicago fire station. It did not bother us. Anyone who has ever stayed in any hotel anywhere in downtown Chicago will tell you that you WILL hear sirens in all parts of the downtown. You will NOT get away from it.

Upon leaving, my wife explained we will be coming back to this hotel again for our next Chicago trip.

Thank you for the very comprehensive review! I am glad that you were able to enjoy your time here in Chicago and that our team here at the Fairfield was able to assist in making it that much better. I also cannot thank you enough for mentioning that you can hear the Chicago Fire Department, but it really is not anything different than any other hotel, you are just able to see where they start from! Thank you again for choosing our hotel and we look forward to seeing you back sometime soon.

Sincerely,
Matt Noonan, Front Desk Manager
