Owner description: Where can you take your picture with a million bucks? Create your own currency? Try your hand at managing inflation? These are just some of the interactive activities available at the Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. We're open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except Bank holidays, when we are closed). If you want to learn a bit more about the Fed, come for our 1 p.m. guided tour (allow about 45 minutes). Admission is always free. The best part: you'll walk away with about $300 in cash--shredded, of course.

This is a great free little museum. You can learn quite a bit about money and you can see a million dollars in different denominations, as well as some very old and unique bills. You can make it a short stop in or a more in-depth visit by reading all of the available information. We got a bag of shredded money and a free printed picture with a million dollars. Worth the stop! FYI, there is a security check point to go through where they will xray your bags, check your id, and possibly search your things if they are suspicious. No biggie if you have your id in hand and don't have a lot of stuff with you to worry about getting cleared for entrance!

“Not open!!!”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Me and my friends came to Chicago for the weekend and heard about this museum. We were very excited to join the fun and learn more about money. We were also excited to take a picture with the case of one million dollars. We were very disappointed to hear that it is only open on the weekdays and were severely upset by this experience! Someday I hope you become open more often for us visitors of Chicago that can only make a weekend trip!!!!!!

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are disappointed not to have met you, as well. Our hours are Monday through Friday only. We are also closed on bank holidays. I hope you will be able to stop in the next time you are in Chicago during the week.

“Worth a trip and your time”

For a free entry this is worth doing, you get to watch a video then someone explains about the fed reserve and he was amusing with it. Take a photo with 1 mill dollars and some other freebies.

Lots of old copies of monies from different times in USA history. From colonial America to today. This museum was free and the best deal by far in Chicago.

“Free and complete”
Reviewed 12 March 2014 via mobile

Once you enter after the airport style security you find yourself among millions of dollars! You see old notes of 1/6 of a dollar and 10.000 dollars. And learn about the role and process of Federal banks. They even give a souvenir picture with a million dollars for free! Also very interesting for kids.
