“Hospitality Palace in the Hood”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Just spent 3 nights here while attending AIA Convention. Must confess to being a little nervous when we first saw the neighborhood, but once we met Mell and saw our suite, we knew we were in a good place. The Inn is a grand mansion lovingly restored by the innkeepers and filled with art and memorabilia that is worthy of the setting. Our room and bathroom were huge and very comfortable. Mell's breakfasts were delicious -- from baked waffles to polenta and poached eggs with roasted red pepper sauce. Mell served us breakfast at 7 to accommodate my husband's convention schedule and chauffeured us to our initial destinations every morning. We also fell in love with Sinbad, the resident gentle and mellow Bull Mastiff. Very nice place to stay and be treated like royalty while in Chicago.

Inn Manor is a very nice B&B, refurbished with love by it's owner Angie & Mell Monroe, at the Southside of Chicago in Bronzeville.
If you are interested in a well-preserved historical building, hospitality, a good breakfast and if you like to meet nice People from all over the world, that's the place to go.

My wife and I spent a long weekend here recently and thought this was one of the best city locations we’ve ever stayed– even comparing with five star hotels. We had a chance to be close to the ground in South Side (Bronzeville) Chicago – half way between the University of Chicago (we were visiting a nephew) and downtown (which is amazing) -- and feel ourselves surrounded by local culture. Mell and Angie, the owners, were welcoming and great hosts. The house is a newly removed old mansion. Our suite – the Nate King Cole room - was extremely large, clean, and tastefully designed with outstanding Afro-American art. The furniture and such amenities as a sauna were fantastic. We asked to see some other rooms for fun: the Rosenwald and Alinsky rooms were equally artistic in design. The owners made us feel at home and made themselves available for any questions about getting around Chicago and the local culture. Breakfast was a feast, mouth-watering and delicious. We didn’t need anything until dinnertime. Our needs as vegetarians were catered to gracefully and perfectly. One morning a guest jazz musician from Kansas sang Stormy Monday and Autumn Leaves during breakfast. I felt lucky to be down-home in Chicago. Guests come from all over. Discussions were wonderful at the table. One of the great things about this BnB is that it is located in a gentrifying black neighborhood. We felt the culture’s inner strength and emergence. Public transportation was fine. Cabs at night weren’t expensive. On Sunday morning I realized that I could hear a gospel service and walked a few blocks and had a wonderful time. This BnB was an important reason that I enjoyed our visit to Chicago. This place is an oasis and special treat. Ted Kaptchuk, Professor of Medicine, Harvard University

Had a wonderful time and it was due to the host, Mell. Shuttled me around the city and was extremely helpful with information and advice on where to eat and what to do. Didn't know that part of Chicago at all so needed the help!
Beautiful elegant decor and comfortable atmosphere and fantastic and unusual breakfasts. Usually I don't spend any time with the other residents when I'm at a B&B, but with Mell introducing everyone, we all felt free to hang out and chat and it was a very homey experience.
I hope to come back someday :)

Room Tip: Loved the Lady D room in the corner. All rooms looked great.

What a great stay it was! The house is filled with history and is very warm. The Nat King Cole suite was a real treat. It is very spacious with a great shower and huge Jacuzzi tub. Mell and Angie were great hosts. They made us feel at home during the stay and suggested great places to eat, shop and get good entertainment. Thanks Mell and Angie for a great and worry free stay and we'll see you soon.

Mell and Angie were amazing! The house is beautiful, and cozy! The art that decorates the whole house is fabulous! The accommodations were great; my wife and I stayed in the Nat King Cole suite, which we definitely suggest! We felt right at home, and Mell is an amazing chef! Breakfast was something to look forward to, and it was so yummy and fulfilling, that we didn't eat lunch a single day we were in the city! Mell offered rides to and from the train station, although we enjoyed the short walk to it. It was a friendly neighborhood, and definitely a place we would stay again, as well as refer our family and friends to! Thank you Mell and Angie for such a great trip, because you guys truly made it amazing for us! Having a terrible place to stay really makes or breaks a trip, and you guys definitely "made it" for us!!! We will see you soon!!!

Room Tip: The Nat King Cole suite is to die for!! So cozy, and even more amenities than a hotel suite!
