Description: As soon as you walk through the doors of The Grill on the Alley in Chicago, you are transported to another time and place reminiscent of the great American grills of yesteryear. The unique decor has an elegant feel with its polished hard wood floors, leather banquettes, and white linen tablecloths. A virtual art gallery adorns the walls of our many dining rooms while the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald linger in the background as white-jacketed waiters attend to your every need. Since opening in June 2000, this high-end steak and seafood house has made its mark on Chicago with locals, and tourists alike. The Grill has become one of the most popular places to gather for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all types of special occasions. Located on the floor level of the Westin Hotel, The Grill on the Alley is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago with easy access to the McCormick Place Convention Center, shops, museums and theaters.

“Magnificent Location, Mediocre Service”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

This restaurant is located on the Mangnificent Mile. Great location, but food is average.
In the restaurant no one knows what's included in the platinum breakfast and the service was lacking.
Indeed, a magnificent location, mediocre service.

“Really nice breakfast”
Reviewed 13 June 2014 via mobile

Had a delightful breakfast here. Egg white omelet was very well done and they accommodated requests beautifully. Steve is a great old school waiter, very good and funny! Only gripe was they charged $3 for side order of toast and you get ONE slice of toast!

“Great service and food”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Stayed at the Westin and wanted a quick bite. Had tuna tartar which was great, sampled local 312 beers and later on had the burger topped with truffle aioli and smoked gouda - it was the best burger I have had in a very long time.

“Old time charm”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

My wife and I came into Chicago from the burbs to see a play at the Looking Glass Theater. We were looking for a restaurant close bye and found theThe Grill On The Alley in the Westin Hotel. The decor takes you back to an earlier era when restaurants meant charm, service and certain amount of calm. We were seated immediately in the main dining room. The walls are draped with pastel and charcoal drawings from an art school in a stile that reminds me of the old London House restaurant the existed down on Michigan Ave. Being a holiday weekend, there were few customers. This didn't matter to the wait staff, the service was prompt and the food was excellent. I had scallops and my wife had Dover sole. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly, not too long and not to short. My wife's sole was dusted and cooked perfectly to a light flake. We split a tres leches strawberry cake. It was just right, light and moist and tasty.

The restaurant is pricey, but, in Chicago, restaurants have become pricey so for that you should expect good food and above all, good service.
