Description: As soon as you walk through the doors of The Grill on the Alley in Chicago, you are transported to another time and place reminiscent of the great American grills of yesteryear. The unique decor has an elegant feel with its polished hard wood floors, leather banquettes, and white linen tablecloths. A virtual art gallery adorns the walls of our many dining rooms while the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald linger in the background as white-jacketed waiters attend to your every need. Since opening in June 2000, this high-end steak and seafood house has made its mark on Chicago with locals, and tourists alike. The Grill has become one of the most popular places to gather for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all types of special occasions. Located on the floor level of the Westin Hotel, The Grill on the Alley is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago with easy access to the McCormick Place Convention Center, shops, museums and theaters.

Service was great; location right on Michigan Ave.; close to shopping, hotels, sites. Extensive menu options to suit all tastes.

I have stayed at this Westin hotel many times. Last night was the first time I ate there. The service was excellent, but the food was really good. My wife had the lobster salad and loved it. I had the best pork chop I have had, moist and tender. Also had a wedge salad the size of a soccer ball. We decided to try the grill in the morning for breakfast. It took longer than expected, but they were pretty busy. My sausage and eggs were very good, my wife didn't care as much for her bacon and eggs. Do try dinner there, especially the pork chop!

The Grille was fairly empty for a Friday night, but frankly, were not there to be seen. For a fine dining restaurant the service was just okay, but the food was very good. Try the risotto...it was by far the best I've ever had. Also, maybe I'm not used to Americian fine dining but the portion sizes were enormous. Sides could be split by three or four people for sure and the whitefish straight out of lake superior was easily enough for 2, although I'm sure sharing would be frowned upon. :)
Wine list is extensive and there are some reasonable choices on the menu too.
Seems as though the bar area may be fun but we didn't stay to partake.

This restaurant is located on the Mangnificent Mile. Great location, but food is average.
In the restaurant no one knows what's included in the platinum breakfast and the service was lacking.
Indeed, a magnificent location, mediocre service.

Had a delightful breakfast here. Egg white omelet was very well done and they accommodated requests beautifully. Steve is a great old school waiter, very good and funny! Only gripe was they charged $3 for side order of toast and you get ONE slice of toast!
