Was expecting more according to the reviews. Service was great, tapas were nice, (except the lamb), sangria was like coloured, sweet water! Could hardly hear ourselves talk, as the overhead tarp was used because it had been raining and was threatening rain again - very loud. If you've had authentic Sangria in Europe ( or even made it yourself)...forget this overpriced sugary offering!...tried the Peach and the Red one...blah! (and expensive).

I have been to Barcelona so it's not the most authentic but I love coming here for a drink or two and a few small plates after or before a movie. Try the bacon and dates--truly a classic and one of their best. The wine list needs a little work though.

We love tapas restaurants because even if you order something that is only so-so, you aren't stuck only eating that one dish for your dinner. If you like the concept of tapas, this is a great choice in Chicago.

The restaurant is located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. There is valet parking but the restaurant can be accessed by a three block walk from the Armitage station on the EL brown line.

There are lots of restaurants in this area but this place obviously holds its own by the crowd that had gathered here on the Friday night we were there. This restaurant takes reservations and you probably want to make one if you are going on a Friday or Saturday night. The restaurant has a farily good size dining area and also an outdoor area if the weather is nice. There is a private dining area as well, which was reserved the night we were there.

As for the tapas, we loved any of the croquette dishes. These were breaded balls of goodness (similar to a fritter). While we were there they had a rice and mushroom croquette and a ham and cheese croquette.

I also really liked the pork shank, the goat cheese with tomato sauce and bread, and of course the chocolate truffle dessert. All of our dishes we chose, however, were all good.

As for drinks, they have a full bar with four or five different sangrias on tap. The beer list is fairly small but they do have the local favorite Goose Island.

When we are in Chicago again, we would definitely return to this place.

On our recent trip to Chicago we tried Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba to compare with our previous favorite tapas restaurant. Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba won.
The empanadas were great...along with the albondigas and the potatas bravas.

Let's keep this short and simple: Great authentic and creative tapas at fantastic prices. Reasonable to good portions. Awesome sangria with great bar atmosphere. Excellent desserts. The paella has a huge disappointment; stay away from it. The paella is over-priced and barely edible and probably the worst ever even though they claim they make it from scratch.

Can't wait to return (will never order the paella again....)
