Lot's of options for Mexican food on this street. Mayan Palace seemed was a quieter option and seemed like a nicer one. We didn't have to wait for a table and the service was good. Their burritos and chimichangas were very good. The salsa was just average...a little bland for me. But we liked everything else. Nice options if you're visiting DePaul or looking for somewhere to eat before going to watch live Blues at Kingston Mines.

We visited here recently for a meal on a Sunday early evening. We were greeted with friendly smiles, immediately recieved chips, salsa and water, and were given a great table by the window. The guacamole we ordered for appetizer was very generous, and the margaritas were excellent (and reasonably priced). I always judge a Mexican restaurant by the chicken flautas. I ordered the combo, and also got a soft shell taco made with Mexican sausage. The flautas were jam packed with white chicken meat and the shell was delicately fried and crispy instead of hard. The soft shell taco was delightful -- the sausage had an unusual blend of aromatic spices and just the right level of spicy. I can't say enough about the service. I'd go back here in a heartbeat. Delicious food, friendl attentive service, pleasant atmosphere and very reasonable prices. How can you beat it?

I wish I could say this was a great Mexican restaurant, but its not. Very average, no Lindo Mexico. The service is great, the Golden Mayan margarita is great, the salsa and the food are average.

Mayan Palace is not substantively different from any number of decent, reasonably-priced Mexican restaurants in Chicago, but I will say it has better than average service and a couple of exceptional dinner specials. There are two different rooms - the front is not huge, but it's relatively tranquil and the waitstaff is attentive, while the back room (accessed by squeezing thru a long narrow corridor) is geared more for large parties and can get possitively raucous. Chips and salsa are set on your table when you're seated; for my taste, they use too much cumin in their salsa. Pitchers of margaritas are half price on Tuesday and Thursday - a good value. Their Mexican menu standards are, well, standard, but their steaks are very good, and they have several dinner specials with very tasty sauces. Wait staff is friendly and attentive but not pushy. Margaritas are a bit on the costly side at standard prices, so go on a Tuesday or Thursday if that's what you crave; be aware it can get quite noisy when drinks are cheap. I like the tables at the very front which face lively Halsted street.
