This was my second visit to Sofi. I'd liked it the first time so returned with a group of colleagues from the conference we were attending in Chicago. It was a terrible evening. Nothing wrong with the food, and it's a nice, intimate little place. The problem was the service. The waiter took our orders fairly soon after we'd had a chance to study the menus; we all had a first and a second course. The first course took a while too arrive, but that seemed OK, since we all expected the second would be coming right along after the first was cleared. Wrong! We sat and waited, and waited, and waited. We finished all of our wine. And waited some more. Meanwhile, the waiter was bustling around serving other tables, Finally he came around with some water and filled everyone's glass but ours -- three people at the far end of the table. We had to flag him down (with difficulty) to ask for water! FINALLY he told us that the kitchen was short handed and that the long wait was "Not his fault." Maybe not, but at the very least he could have informed us of the problem much, much earlier. In the end, our dinners took TWO HOURS from the time we arrived, the waiter insisting again that it "wasn't his fault." The service was really about the worst I've ever had anywhere. It was negligent, careless, and unpleasant. I would never, never return to this restaurant, nor would I recommend it to anyone who expects courteous service. Sofi is not some cheap chow house but a fine-dining venue, not cheap. Inexcusable carelessness.
