I took my mother, aunt, and sister to afternoon tea to celebrate my mom's birthday. Everything was wonderful! We were able to take our seats 15 minutes prior to our reservation time and had a choice of table or couch. Our server, Azmir, was tops! He was professional and really seemed to care about our experience. We each ordered the afternoon tea with 4 different types of tea which came promptly. The teapots were continuously refilled with hot water. On the three-tier tray were beef, cucumber, and seafood sandwiches with cranberry scones, lemon poppy bread, and macarons all topped by a plate of tasty desserts. Traditional lemon curd and Devonshire cream were also presented. A harpist was a lovely addition to the atmosphere. Her first song was "Happy Birthday" and as it played my mother was presented with her very own piece of chocolate deliciousness complete with birthday candle. We enjoyed a wonderful 90 minutes together. Nice old-school elegance vibe.

Great older hotel with incredible architecture. Great bar inside with very good bar food too! And just off Michigan Ave.

The Palm Court isn't just for afternoon tea. On Saturday nights a live band plays and an eclectic mix of drinkers and dancers crowd the tiny dance floor. You can see anything from 20ish hipsters, to escapees from wedding receptions being held in the hotel, to 75ish tanned and coifed couples in neon dinner jackets and tight dresses dancing away to the very good singer (wow, what a voice!) and small band. Warning: the septuagenarians didn't hold back during "Blurred Lines". You might want to order and extra drink if you choose to watch.

We have enjoyed the great English Afternoon tea at the Drake. Service was perfect, so were the delicious sandwiches, scones, sweets. Our table was located next to the fountain and we did enjoy. On that sunday afternoon there were four or five wedding- and baby showers and so the place was quite crowded. This takes a bit of the luxury, a bit of its beeing unique. For us, less would in this case have been more. Still, the servers were very polite. When they clean a table, they make it very fast to be ready for new guests. They make it so fast, that it's quite noisy. Good, but noisy.
Still, we liked it a lot. And all the things I mentionned negative are just small hints for the Drake... to maybe get even better!

Our family had the opportunity to stay at the Drake Hotel, and while we were there we had Afternoon Tea in the lovely Palm Court. We enjoyed a leisure afternoon being served tea and beautifully displayed finger sandwiches, breads and scones, and delicious desserts. We were fortunate to be able to hear the talented harpist. Reservations are suggested. After our tea we were treated to a tour of the Drake Hotel. What a nice experience to see many other features of the hotel we would not have had the opportunity to view. The wait staff was professional and attentive. We had had a busy week exploring Chicago and this was a wonderful way to relax and enjoy being together in such a grand atmosphere.
