“Chinatown Hotel..a Rare Find...Please Read Review”

I stayed at the Chinatown Hotel in the Summer of this year to attend a Conference at McCormick Place. It was a close walk or bus ride and very CHEAP!! The staff was very friendly, helpful to find a good Restaurant... and the location is superb for sightseeing!!! This place is very special, as it's door locks were imported from China..so you can get an actual feel for the culture. It is a low price because they have kept it simple, but each room has a shower , TV ( that works) , and beds. If your bed is not comfortable, they will do their best to accommodate. The lobby has a small room on the side with a refrigerator, microwave and hot water is available for coffee or tea at all times. There are tables avail. for eating and socializing. I admit, it was not a luxury hotel, but I can tell you..IT WAS A GREAT VALUE AND PLACE TO STAY!! What do you expect for almost 80% less than most.. It is worth it!! Believe me!!

Room Tip: Just don't go with Luxury expectations and see it for the value it is!!! They are very nice ( En...

I stayed in Chinatown Hotel for the weekend of the Chicago Marathon. The location was just perfect for the expo, a five minute jog, about 0.7 miles down the street. The buses to downtown Chicago were regular and convenient, and if you fancy walking, its really only about 30-40 minutes walk from the centre of the city.
I found the hotel itself perfectly adequate. I was travelling by myself, and not really interested in luxuries. It could probably do with a bit of a facelift inside, but the bedroom was very clean, the bathroom clean and well enough stocked, and the staff were friendly (a little tired perhaps when I was checking out at 4:50 am)!!
There was a bit of noise from the street during the night, but I can't say I'd any issues with the area itself, I felt perfectly safe.
For anyone travelling on a budget, looking for a good value hotel in close proximity to McCormick Centre, and within a short bus trip of the city centre, this place is fits the bill.

stayed here because we were going to Illini game at Soldiers field and then the Bears game the next day. Place was cheap and an easy walk to the games and Michigan Ave. Room was awful - the fire detector and the clasp to the door lock were in the dresser drawer with the screws. Chinatown itself is fun however and the location is good for walking to Chicago attractions. Looking for a cheap place to crash - this is it.

Room Tip: there are none.

This is a great budget hotel, bed was comfy, AC was good, TV was good and shower was fine. The electrics were a bit dodgy but I think this was the same for the whole of the US!
The hotel is on the orange line which is about a ten minute ride from downtown Chicago, there were maintenance works on the line so there was a bus replacement but was running frequently so was just as easy as the train. The bakeries in Chinatown are great for breakfast and a great price as well!

The first time I visited Chicago, I was on a tight budget, my friends and I decided to stay in this hotel because of its price. It is fairly close to the CTA station and it didn't seem to be dangerous even when we were walking at night. The rooms are small and they have limited accommodations. The fridge and microwave are in the common area, they also have tea and coffee in there. It is a good place if you are travelling on a budget; however, if you have some extra money you should definitely try to look for a better place. It is an old building, no elevator and the stairs are really small. Despite all the bad reviews, my experience at this hotel was excellent for travelling on a budget besides the staff is friendly and it is like 10 min or less from downtown Chicago. While you are in there, definitely take the the time to go and explore around chinatown. All the small stores, watching everyone go from one place to another, and the restaurants are an awesome experience as well. In overall, it is good if you are not planning to stay a lot in the hotel.

This is definitely a no-frills hotel. If you're looking for amenities typically found in 4- or 5- star hotels, you will not be happy. There's no USA Today waiting for you in the morning. There's no view out the window. There's no refrigerator or microwave in the room. These appliances are located in the lounge / kitchenette area which is shared by all, as well as a soda machine and 2 small ice-makers. Internet WiFi in the room leaves much to be desired, but I was told the signal in the lounge area was much better. There is a computer and printer in the lounge area if needed. Rooms are not spacious, and there's no elevator. Television channels are limited, and don't expect any pay channels or ESPN. AMEX and Discover are not accepted, but VISA and Mastercard are. However, if you're only looking for an inexpensive hotel room with a clean comfortable bed to sleep in at night, this is the place for you. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the room, though small, was clean. Located in the heart of Chinatown, there is no "McDonalds" to speak of, but every other building seemed to be a Chinese restaurant. The CTA Chinatown-Cemack train station is nearby (though currently closed for remodeling but a free shuttle will take you to the next closest station.) I bought a 7-day CTA pass ($28) which got me everywhere I needed to go. The Convention Center is a short 15 minute walk. I did not spend much time in my room except to sleep, so accommodations were perfect for me. A fire station is just around the corner. I heard this station was used in the filming of the movie "Backdraft", but I never got the chance to verify this. WalGreens is nearby.

Gotta say, this place is awesome! The rooms feel like staying at an aging relatives' - old with unique furniture and decor. The spare blanket was fuzzy and cozy - gave that feel of being home. I didn't see any signs of dirt but the bathroom was definitely pristine. I love the neat door keys and the customer service was fantastic. Between the comforts of home, the price, and the location - I would always recommend staying here.
