Owner description: Now in its ninth straight year! Experience true stories of Chicago's paranormal past -- including ghosts, curses, and ESP -- brought to life through audience-involving demonstrations of the magical and the psychic. This interactive and creepily funny one-man show is hosted by Neil Tobin, Necromancer every Friday night in one of the city's most haunted locations, Castle nightclub. Educational and unforgettable fun! Group rates and private seatings are available.

Form a mental picture of a highly atmospheric theatre in the dungeon of a gorgeous building, a nightclub, that is very convincingly built to resemble a Victorian vision of a Medieval castle: Thick stone walls, heavy wooden beams, stained glass . . . go ahead and romanticize your imagination here--that will just about get it. The atmosphere is subdued, lit with candles, some red accents in the dark recesses, and a bit of white light washes the performance area--low, but bright enough to see well. It is slightly cool in this room in the winter . . . just cool enough to assist the shiver factor when it comes (as it does again and again).

Picture an audience of about 35 adventure-minded, enthusiastic persons genuinely interested in taking a trip into the supernatural realms of Chicago. They crowd up on the performance area--comfortably seated on three sides. Got it?

This is the dream setting for Supernatural Chicago.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Supernatural Chicago show for the first time this past Friday night. This is a walk in the misty mid region of Weir, Chicago style. Photos of ghosts vanish right out of your pocket, Capone's haunted, hunted soul rises again, an audience member channels a young spirit right before your eyes--and so very much more. Adults thrill, children recoil, and a superb time is had by all.

Neil Tobin is an engaging, entertaining performer, a superior teller of tales, and the show is wonderful. He elicits gasps and nervous laughter time after time in this extremely well-paced, extraordinarily informative and thoroughly entertaining 90-minute show.

I have spent six and eight times the ticket price on shows I have not enjoyed half so much. I therefore urge you to go if you possibly can before this show closes in February 2014. If you have spouses and children, take them. You will all be marvelously well entertained and will also learn much about that wonderful city. This show is simply pitch perfect.

When Mr. Tobin opens his new show, I will make a point of taking a special trip up from Atlanta just to see it. He is really just that good.

If you appreciate skillful mentalism, psychic work, and storytelling, go to Supernatural Chicago

My partner and I went to Supernatural Chicago thinking the show would be "OK" for the $25 ticket price. We left feeling the show was worth much more than the price of admission.

The show was fun, entertaining, and intriguing. Neil Tobin is a polished and engaging entertainer (I don't give that praise lightly as I do a lot of public speaking and facilitation myself and my standards are high in that regard.). Neil presents a series of Chicago ghost stories and involves the audience in several mentalism tricks and psychic demonstrations. Some of the demonstrations are more powerful than others, but every demonstration was strong and left us wondering "how did he do that!?!" Neil definitely engaged the diverse audience members throughout the show (come prepared to participate).

I wound up being the participant in the final demonstration of the show. Being the healthy skeptic that I am, I can share I left the show feeling truly amazed and appreciating Neil's talent. I don't care if it was mentalism, or psychic work, or a combination of both -- it was just plain cool.

Some helpful tips:

The show is located downstairs (in the basement) of Excalibur.

If you didn't purchase your ticket in advance, bring exact cash for the price of the tickets you are buying.

Come prepared to participate (it's fun)

If you enjoy an evening of entertainment and are open to mentalism and psychic demonstrations, this is ideal for you.

If you or anyone attending with you is feeling a bit snarky or cynical, you'll be happier going somewhere else for the evening.

It was entertaining. Audience involvement was really good. Neil does a great job keeping the attention. I was hoping there were more haunting stories

The show was good, but the setting was a bit odd.
I knew from another review that there was no place to put your drinks in the performance area.
Several drinks were spilled because people had to put them on the floor.
Some kind of tables would be nice.

The show itself was fun, several of the tales told were more of urban myths than ghost stories (several cities have their own devil baby and Resurrection Mary stories) but they are presented well.

My only real criticism of the show, was that it went a bit long, this could be an issue if you had plans afterward.
Was fun though.

Really fun interactive show. Great way to spend a Friday evening. The host was very good. The magic was a little basic, but the overall experience was very enjoyable. Good stories. Great audience participation. At $25 per person including 2 free drinks, it was definitely great value for the money.
