“Beautiful Venue”

I didn't actually here the Chicago Symphony here, but the Chicago Philharmonic as part of the National Flute Association Convention. Great acoustics and in the lower balcony where I was sitting, the sight lines were great.

The free concert in the park was amazing! The composer of music for the TV series was conducting the orchestra whilst we watched fabulous images on huge screens. Awesome!

“A Timeless Auditorium”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

I had the chance to attend a concert here this evening, but alas, not one by the Chicago Symphony ... so I will comment only on the building and the concert experience.

Wonderful! For an old building with older seats, there was a surprising amount of room and comfort. If you are going in on the orchestra level, the balcony over-hangs a lot and masks the size of the room but doesn't seem to dampen the sound. Lighting is excellent, and the stage is well situated to present an orchestra and soloists.

The winner? The Ladies' Room! I have never been in an auditorium where the design of the Ladies' Room actually could handle the intermission capacity, but this one truly does. The line never came to a halt! I'm not sure what they did, but it completely worked and they have me eternal gratitude. I wish every hall could steal this design.

If you are sitting under the balcony in the orchestra, do go down to the stage to look up. The room suddenly becomes very light and airy out from under the balcony and the balconies really go up above you. I understand from those who go to this theatre regularly that the third balcony is REALLY steep and actually feels scary from the angle ... and they say the sound really is best up there.

Enjoy!
