Owner description: The Lookingglass Theatre Company seeks to redefine the limits of theatrical experience and to make theatre exhilarating, inspirational, and accessible to all.Through theatre, which invites, even demands, interaction with its audience, the company's goal is to fire the imagination with love, to celebrate the human capacity to taste and smell, weep and laugh, create and destroy, and wake up where we first fell --- changed, charged and empowered.

Unpredictable, and fast paced. Good for older children as well.

“Cascabel - Wish There Was a Higher Rating!”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

Saw "Cascabel" last weekend during our trip to Chicago. WOW! I was a bit skeptical spending nearly $500 on 2 tickets, but it was totally worth it. If there are any tickets available, go see this show.
Rick Bayless was really good ... and he mostly does what he does best -- COOK! The acrobatics and gymnastics were amazing (not to mention the tightrope walking!), and last but not least ... the banana escapade (I don't want to ruin this for anyone). The audience feels like it's part of the story and all the multi-course gourmet mexican meals served to us were the same ones Rick Bayless was preparing onstage. Everyone gets a margarita upon entering, and any other alcohol from this point forward is not included. All the food was delicious, including the decadent dessert.
It was clever and creative how the food and cooking was woven into the story unfolding on the stage. This production was smart, fun, romantic, sensual, funny, and exciting.
I would love to see Cascabel again, perhaps sitting in different seats where we would get a different perspective/view of the goings-on. We sat on the main floor at Table G in seats 1 and 2 (to the far side of the stage but in the very front 2 seats). Rick Bayless makes himself available after the performance for photos and autographs.
We were visiting from the metro Detroit area and are season ticket holders for "Broadway in Detroit" ... so we've seen lots and lots of theatrical productions. This one blew them all away.

A love story, amazing human feats, a Rick Bayless three course meal, PLUS he dances a mean tango!
If you appreciate Chef Bayless' love of the Mexican culture and food you will be elevated to another level.
It just doesn't get any better than this.
A MUST see.
Bravo lookingglass!!!

“Intriguing productions in an amazing venue”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

We love live theater, and this is one of our favorites, particularly the acrobatic productions they often do. It's a very small, intimate theater-in-the-round setting but once you're caught up in the show, the space no longer matters. Seeing a production in the historic water treatment plant adds another level of enjoyment for us, so we return here often.

Most productions are created or produced by the actors, so they can be very creative and innovative compared to other companies. We've never been disappointed.
