“Great Location, excellent staff! Cookies!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2013

Wifey and I stayed here for two nights this past weekend and loved it! Lots of pros and really no cons

The pros!

Location! Situated right in the heart of the theater district was perfect for us as we were planning to see a show (which happened to be in the same building as the hotel). A very nice advantage is that it is situated less than 50 yards from the Monroe stop on the "L" train's Blue Line. This is convenient because it is the Blue Line that brings folks in from O'Hare. No need to transfer, just hop on at O'Hare and hop off at Monroe. it's about a 45 minute trek on the train.

It's within a short walk to the Magnificent Mile as well which was very convenient. However, if you go bananas while shopping and don't want to slog all of your bags by foot back to the hotel, you can just grab the Red Line at Chicago, which is on the North end of the Mile, and get off on the Monroe Red Line stop which is also very close to the hotel.

The staff! Very nice people at the bell check as well as the front desk. They gave us a room on the 20th floor which had an excellent view and was high enough to avoid the noise from the street.

This was especially nice for us considering it was St. Paddy's Day, The Big 10 Tournament, as college Spring Break... In spite of just a complete crush of crazy drunks, the staff was kind and patient.

The room! The room was perfect for what we needed. Not overly huge but big enough to move around in and very, very clean.

Breakfast was included and was adequate. Very typical hotel food. Good but nothing to write Momma about. The cookies after 3pm were a nice touch! Nom!

Cons. No real cons that I can write about.

Overall, considering how crazy the weekend was with all that was going on, the staff was excellent, the location was perfect and the rooms were surprisingly quiet!

Cheers!

For a property in the heart of the Loop, this place is a classic! Art deco/mod style takes it a step (and more) above the average cookie-cutter Hampton property. Rooms are comfy and spatious (I always seem to end up on the SE corner of the building, which I HIGHLY recommend). Very friendly staff, good quality a.m. breakfast, and free internet access in the lobby - what's not to love? It's also worth noting that valet parking is not the budget buster it is at other hotels in the city - but that's because the parking they use is 4-5 blocks away, so the porters REALLY hustle. Remember that, allow appropriate time to retrieve your vehicle, and tip accordingly! If you're looking for a convenient spot to stay for activity in the Loop - especially if you're seeing a show at the adjacent Bank of American Theatre - I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I've ended up at the SE corner of the building both times I've stayed here, and would recomm...

My family and I stayed at this property on March 13-16. I highly recommend it for families looking for a nice hotel in The Loop. Here are the nice things about this hotel:

(1) Great access to public transit. Whether riding the El or buses, this may be the best situated hotel in Chicago. It is about 150 feet west of State Street, where the Red line runs North-South. State Street also benefits from several bus routes that go south to the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and Univ. of Chicago. Buses run north to Michigan Avenue and Navy Pier. About 100 yards west of the hotel is the Blue line station (this runs to O'Hare). The hotel is three city blocks from the Brown, Purple, Orange lines (the latter runs to Midway Airport).

(2) Close proximity to good restaurants and activities. It is three blocks from The Gage, seven from Wildberry. Three blocks from Art Institute and Millenium Park. About eight blocks from Willis Tower.

(3) Starbucks, Walgreens, Target and CVS are all within a block of the hotel.

(4) Theater district. The hotel is literally connected to the Bank of America Theater, where "Book of Mormon" is showing. We didn't have to wear a coat!

(5) Clean, comfy rooms. Tall ceilings helped them feel spacious. Bathroom was nicer than most.

(6) Great customer service. From the bellstand to the front desk. Top notch. Helpful with a smile and a nice recommendation. They were very helpful putting two rooms close together, despite having a relatively full hotel.

(7) Free and strong wi-fi....everywhere.

Why isn't this five stars you ask? Well, few hotels are perfect. In this case:

(A) It has no business center. I needed a computer printer and had to fax documents for work, but had to use a late-night Kinkos six blocks away.

(B) The free breakfast is fair, but I've experienced much better at similar properties. The breakfast area is relatively small and can fill quickly. (Note: positive aspect--the hotel keeps the coffee hot and fresh all day and night for the guests. My daughters really liked the hot chocolate after being out in the cold.) On the other hand, we went out for breakfast several days because there are SO many great places in Chicago.

I'd definitely stay here again.

A real find. Well located - 1 minute from Blue Line from airport and close to things cultural. Bedroom of high standard and great to have breakfast included even if on polystyrene dishes. Great value - no need to pay for luxurious lobbies that one does not use on self paid trips. Would stay again.

We stayed in a standard room first few nights and upgraded to a deluxe room with a folding sofa bed. Breakfast included and round the clock hot drinks and coffee.
The coffee to not exaggerate was very good. I preferred it to the coffee available in most the places around! Love the place, love the people and location to die for!
Millenium park was a quick walk down as was the Art institute. minutes walk to the loop very easy to get around.

fantastic experience with helpful and friendly staff all round. five stars!

I agree with the other recent reviewers that this is a good-value hotel with a lot of comforts. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. I was traveling with an octogenarian parent who needed some assistance. Everyone was happy and willing to help, in particular the bell staff.
The hotel is 2 blocks from the Art Institute and not far from the lakefront. It's also 2 blocks from favorite old-timey restaurants The Berghoff and not far from Macy's /The Walnut Room. tons of shopping all around, and a $7 cab ride to the Miracle Mile.
It was also easy to rent a car at the nearby Budget rental place a few blocks away on Wabash.
Breakfast is not fancy, but it's okay. Healthy choices include fresh fruit, real juice, cold cereal with nonfat milk, and decent coffee.
All in all, a good experience.

this was a great place to stay. blocks from millennium park and the art institute. loads of dining options (fancy to grab and go) within blocks. the staff was super friendly, the bed was crazy comfortable and the 24hr coffee/tea in the lobby was perfect after long days of frosty wanderings. the walls are thin - the person in the room next to me had a cough - but that's a minor quibble. would definately stay here again.
