Last minute find on a business trip to Chicago. David the inn keeper is great. Rooms are old but clean and comfortable. Neighborhood is safe. Plenty of dining options within walking distance. Train is easy walking distance so no need for a car.

My recent stay at the Old Chicago Inn confirmed my sense of this bed and breakfast. Located in a charming townhouse, the owners have created a comfortable venue that serves my needs -- rooms are well-kept and clean, the staff is available to help in any way. Breakfast includes homemade coffee cakes, cereals, coffee and often a quiche. The nearby Red, Brown and Purple lines on the CTA make travel around town simple and inexpensive. The White Sox are on the Red Line and the Cubs walking distance from the Inn. I am planning to return on my next trip to Chicago. Susan H.

Room Tip: The rooms with bay windows are open and comfortable. If you don't want to share a bath, make s...

I recently stayed at the Old Chicago Inn during what was probably the busiest weekend in Chicago all summer. Because of a huge music festival, even many large hotels were completely booked.

A couple third party booking websites actually listed the Inn as booked as well, but I called just to make sure and they were very helpful. Luckily, they did have a room left, and it was a beautiful one with a great view of Belmont avenue. The stretch of Belmont that the Inn overlooks is a nice one because the street itself is a very busy and fun one, but this particular cross street also combines some nice scenery of gorgeous trees on the sidewalk and a little bit more of a quieter, neighborhood feel.

The help on the phone was informative. When we got in to check in, they were also helpful in explaining everything. The building just looks like a nice, old, restored Chicago mini-mansion, and it is decorated in a quaint and pretty way.

The room was well-furnished with nice wood furniture and trim and a very comfortable, large bed and sofa. There was also a very nice futon and wardrobe with plenty of room.

There was a nice common area outside of the room with a small fridge and microwave and board games and a big couch. We actually spent some time out there because it was comfortable.

What the innkeeper himself described to us as a "modest" continental breakfast was, in fact, far better than modest, we were pleased to find out on Sunday morning. There were muffins, pastries, cold cereal, juice, tea and fruit, as the title would suggest.

But there was also a freshly and home made quiche that was delicious. Not sure who made it and if they offer it every night, but I hope so because I personally had three large pieces of it since I liked it so much.

In all, the room had character but still felt elegant and spacious. The neighborhood is great, offering access to one of the livelier parts of town (as well as being steps away from main public transit stops to take you to other parts with ease) that also somehow has a homey feel to it if you choose to stay in.

I'll be back to the Old Chicago Inn, for certain.

Do not believe ANYTHING on their cozy little website.... this place is a dump in a marginal area of town. In spite of what is published, almost ALL bathrooms are SHARED, without any sanitization efforts. They were never cleaned the whole time, and have no hand sanitizer, soap dispensers, toilet seat covers or paper towels. Fixtures are dirty, moldy, outdated and in poor working condition. Rooms do not have adequate door locks, floors, closets, furnishings are in dis-repair. Noisy!! Dark, dank, mouldy, depressing!! Narrow hallways and squeaky floors- you can hear everyone, and they can hear you. Outdated televisions with only a few channels. Horrible!! AVOID!!!

Room Tip: Choose another location!!! Do not stay here!!

Great ambiance, clean and helpful too. We love being downtown near all the action, dining and close to the L so we can get to the museums easily. Even parking wasn't a problem but probably it is best to commute to Chicago and leave the driving to the trains...
The summer festivals are the best around and it's great to have place nearby.

This was the only place we could find that was a really easy walk to Wrigley Field for the game, and for the morning tour of the ball park. Right near the Belmont L station. We had Room 2C, I think it's the smallest room in the place. And it had a shared bathroom down the hall. Luckily for us the room it shared with was vacant. The innkeeper David is pleasant and very helpful. He provides a simple but nice breakfast. This is not a fancy place so if you're expectations are on the high side, stay elsewhere and take the L to Wrigley. The stop past Belmont is right at the ballpark.

Room Tip: Try to reserve any room but 2C. Look closely to try and get one with a private bath.

My husband and I stayed at the Old Chicago Inn last month. We're big B&B fans and found the inn while looking online. The value was amazing and the inn was within walking distance of the train, Wrigley Field and everything else. The room was spotless and had great amenities, bath robes, etc. Breakfast was included and served in a very 20s chic room downstairs. We also received gift certificates to eat at Trader Todd's - a fun Caribbean-themed restaurant and bar located down the block. It was really neat -we actually ate there twice! Great location, lots of charm, fantastic value, friendly staff - big bang for your buck. We travel to Chicago about 1x/year and plan to stay here from now on.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique.
