“Boat cruise”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Very interesting and informative. Not good for children younger than middle school. Lots of history of the Chicago River. Caused a little queasiness due to water motion while looking up at the tall buildings. Might bring a snack. Only water available for 72 min. We went on the 12:30pm cruise and were starving when finished!

“A great way to see the magnificent architecture of Chicago”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Made reservation through the hotel. Beautiful day to enjoy the varying architecture of Chicago from a river boat. Boat was clean, easily accessible, and ticketing and boarding was well organized. The river tour is a great way to see many important works of architecture by many important architects. As an aside, there were several architects visiting for a convention. They seemed to appreciate the knowledgeable tour guide.

“Top of the list for Things to Do in Chicago”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

Regardless of the length of your Chicago stay, take the Architectural Foundation river tour at the beginning of your visit. This tour is for anyone who wants to learn some Chicago history, the background of its unique and compelling architecture, and the development of the river walk. Our docent was extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated in her delivery of detailed information. She spun a story of Chicago's history as she revealed her list of the top ten things you need to know about Chicago. There were a million opportunities for great photos as we passed one spectacular building after another. Days later we were still mentioning architectural trivia as we walked the streets. Unfortunately on our particular trip, the skies opened up, and we were only able to truly learn and enjoy the first fork of the river. Once we all moved downstairs, the views were very limited and most people were talking among themselves and not listening to the docent who continued to share facts. Even with only having "half a trip", we loved what we experienced. Upon any subsequent trips to Chicago, we will take another Architectural Foundation trip. We had heard that the tours can sell out, so we booked online. Frankly, I was annoyed that there was an $8 per ticket surcharge through Ticketmaster, but I didn't want to miss the trip. Luckily for us because the trips were all sold out on the day that we had set aside. I wish that the Foundation would find an alternative to booking, so the hefty charge could be eliminated or decreased. That being said, this tour is not to be missed when in Chicago.

This is a fabulous way to see and learn about the architecture of Chicago. Our docent, MaryPat, spoke for 90 minutes - she was incredibly knowledgeable, funny and informative in an interesting way. Highly recommend this tour!
