Palmisano Park in the Bridgeport neighborhood, opened in 2009. This site was previously a quarry and landfill. A mound was created with 40 cubic yards of topsoil and along the inclined path flowering prairie plants lead you to a spectacular view of the Chicago skyline.
A small section of the original quarry was left and filled with water to become a catch and release fishing pond. A thoughtful design includes wetlands, open meadows for kite flying and a sculptured fountain made of recycled quarry tools. Accessible to the Orange line (Halsted stop) or the # 8 Halsted bus. So close to the city, yet a green space to enjoy! Handicap accessible. Great for all ages.
