“Beautiful room, convenient location”
Reviewed 15 March 2010

We stayed in a king bed suite. It is in a building annex accesible with a room key. Our room was room 428, top floor, corner, view of the Hawthorne Terrace. Parking was in a deck right next door to the hotel with in and out priviledges. The rooms have recently been remodeled. The bathroom, while small (no tub) was beautiful and tastefully done, great water pressure. It's more of an efficiency apartment than a room. I king bed in a room with a door, another "room" through an arching doorway that also had a king bed, as well as a sofa (sofabed)/living room and a dining table with four chairs. There was a microwave and small fridge and small counter space as well. Hardwood floors, 52 inch flat screen tv's= three in total. Considering you're on a busy street in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, very little street noise (occasional siren). If you looked out the window and down the street you could see Lake Michigan at the end of the block.
We stay here because it's close to my daughter's apartment. Love the neighborhood, right next to a great grocery store, as well as lots of restaurants of all sorts and pubs. Great location, within walking distance of the Belmont train station too. The hotel has an ample continental breakfast as well- cinammon buns, bagels, toast, cereal, biscuits and gravy, yogurt. Great hotel, will definitely go back.

This hotel is absolutely amazing! It is wonderfully priced for the location. My friend and I really wanted to stay in boystown, and this was definitely a good choice. The rooms were clean, with the exception of a little new construction dust. Very good view, flat screen TV, cable, free internet (and we all know how difficult it is to get free internet in hotels nowadays), great coffee, very cozy rooms. The breakfast in the morning isn't plentiful, but very good for a quickie... Lol! The hotel staff was very friendly as well. Parking is a public parking garage, and they keep your keys, so I was iffy about that, but all in all it was a great stay! I WILL come back and stay here when I visit again.

Best Western was very good in overall facilities, rooms were very new and employers were kind. Hotel is near to Michigan Street for shopping and entertainment. Only missing thing may be mentioned was breakfast, which should be richer.

I stayed here with a colleague in Sept. 2008. Having never been to Chicago before it came as a pleasant surprise. It was more like a country hotel back home the frontage is very attractive with creepers and small courtyard garden in the front.

The location is very convenient for bars and restaurants in the locality and there is a busy nightlife however we never felt intimidated. All the locals are very relaxed and happy to talk. There are also convenient bus routes in to the centre of Chicago.

As to the rooms these are quiet, very clean and very comfortable. The room I had, had air con an immaculate bathroom, TV, phone and drink making facillities.

There is no restaurant but the staff were very helpful in providing suggestions for places to eat. Breakfast is a basic serve yourself affair with toast, cereal, coffee, mufins etc.
so familys or tourists looking for a cheap breakfast fill up might find this a little limiting.

On the whole it was a really enjoyable stay here.

The hotel is a solid average. Nothing seriously wrong. The accomodations were comfortable and better than adequate. The hotel was clean although the smoking rooms were smelly. (We were booked in a smoking room by mistake and asked to be moved to a nonsmoking room). No pool, but there is a cute jacuzzi area which was nice after a day of walking around the city. The exercise room consists of a small area with three pieces of equipment. The staff here was outstanding. EVERYONE always had a smile on and they seemed genuinely eager to great the guests. The front desk was very helpful and accomodating and eager to help with any problems or needs. It would be an average adequate place except for the location which, for us, was everything. The hotel is a short walk from N Halsted which is the center of Boystown and all of its nightlife. We stayed over halloween and it was only a short walk to the parade. We hit some of the nightclubs too and it was nice not to have to drive or take the train to get back. We will definitely stay here again simply for the location and service.

I have stayed at Hawthorne Terrace twice...eight years apart. The first tine I stayed there (quite by happenstance) was in 2000. I could never forget how at home I felt in that little hotel, and how great the staff were. Eight years later when a friend suggested returning to Chicago, I jumped at the chance to stay at this hotel again. It was every bit as wonderful as I'd remembered. The rooms are cozy and clean. The hotel boasts a lovely - you guessed it - terrace, not to mention a fabulous hot tub and sauna. The staff are personable and helpful. The location is also prime. It is in "Boystown," which translates into great restaurants and shops, an active nightlife and attractive, trendy homes. It is approximately 3 blocks from the beach (Lake Michigan) and very close to Wrigley Field. The price is also reasonable and it is part of the Best Western chain (not that you'd ever know it was part of a chain) so there are frequently room deals. I love it! I'd move in if I could!!

We had booked a standard room, but were upgraded to a suite in their new building next door to the main hotel--very nice! Like an upscale studio apartment in a lovingly restored vintage building. Stylish and immaculate bathroom and kitchenette, hardwood floors, comfy couch and new bigscreen TV. Loved it. Staff were so nice. And cinnamon rolls from Ann Sather for breakfast--yum!
