“Very fancy hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

The hotel is very fancy and the rooms are really nice. The hotel gives a pleasant feel in the lobby as it smells really nice and the staff were really friendly. The only downside is that it has no fridge or microwave in the rooms unless you pay extra and there are no free in-room wifi and no free breakfast. I only stayed there because we got some family discount and it made the price incredibly cheap for a place like this but if you want more amenities for cheaper price I don't recommend this hotel.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments regarding your recent stay. It was a pleasure to receive your comments and to learn of your appreciation of fancy hotel and with the quality of service you received from our friendly staff. It’s always good to hear we are meeting the expectations our guests come to expect and deserve.
Please accept my sincere apology for our added charges. We work hard to maintain one of the most competitive pricing for a large downtown area hotel on our products and services such as internet service. Also, please allow me to take this opportunity to inform you we recently completed a renovations project on some of our guestrooms with more rooms planned for the very near future. These renovations brought new amenities such as in-room safes and refrigerators so we truly hope you will visit us again and come enjoy a newly remodeled room.
We look forward to many more years of serving you in the true spirit of hospitality for which Hilton Hotels are known.

Sincerely,
Michael F. Hooper

I stayed at the Hilton from Tuesday to Monday as I was working for a conference.

Since I had a meeting at 1Pm on Tuesday I asked if we could check in early and we were accommodated which was great. We stayed on the newly renovated 10th floor in a room with an incredible view of Buckingham Fountain, the Lake, museum campus, Wednesday and Saturday night fireworks at Navy Pier, and even the Bean!

The friendliness of the staff was really outstanding. I was working in the hotel all week and we had amazing service from the bellmen to the security officers to the support staff.

The housekeeping was excellent, our room was spotless. On a couple of occasions we requested more towels or toiletries and they were delivered quickly and with a smile.

I would highly recommend the renovated floor, the room was SWEET. There were plugs everywhere and the decor is very nice.

The only drawback was that the concierge level was always a madhouse, too many people. First world problems!

Be sure you check out the Grand Ballroom, it is spectacular.

Room Tip: Try and get on the 10th floor. Room 1069 has an amazing view, it is really far from the elevator bu...

I was in town for a conference and they put us up here. The Michigan Ave. entrance is spectacular. Make sure you look up when you get in by the clock. There's a lot of old-world charm, which I love, but that infatuation fades in the hotel room. You can tell that it's been updated at some point, but that point wasn't recently. Everything is in good order, but the vanity is low, the shower doesn't have a curved rod and the shower head wouldn't give a traditional spray (it was more like a fire hose than a shower). Every morning I had a flooded bathroom floor (even with the shower curtain fully inside the tub).

The staff is very friendly and helpful, the lobby bistro is open late and has a nice selection. But, it's time for a room update, getting the modern conveniences and touches that frequent travelers have come to expect.

Green Features: They have video in the 14 elevators touting their environmental practices, but I had to use every towel, every day, to dry up my bathroom floor.

I stayed here for just one night in August and came away with an overall positive experience - Being a Diamond member, I was able to get an upgrade to one of the newly renovated executive rooms over looking the late and it was among the best hotel rooms I've stayed in at any Hilton.

Location was great for the parks and museums but if you want to do Michigan Avenue shopping you'd probably want to stay north of the river.

My only complaint was that the breakfast offered in the executive lounge was very poor - just some fruit and small pastries - no hot options or even yogurt!

Parking Tip - Park in the Grant Park South/Millennium Garage a couple of blocks away for about half the price of the Hilton Parking at $34 max for a 24 hour period -

Room Tip: Lakefront rooms - high up are certainly desirable!

We make numerous trips to Chicago for business and pleasure. Since this was my first trip after becoming a hHonors gold member, I decided to try out the Hilton Chicago. Situated just behind Water Tower Place, the hotel is well positioned for excursions to Magnificent Mile, the Lakefront, and other downtown favorites.

If you choose, as I always do, to travel from the airport to the hotel by train, you take the Red Line to the Chicago station. It is about a 6 block walk.

While there is little to be memorable about the hotel, it is after all, a flagship Hilton property, so it is expected that there would be little to complain about. As with most downtown Chicago hotels (who continue to exist in the '80s), WiFi Internet must be paid for unless you are an hHonors member. The breakfast and happy hour offerings are reasonable, but alcohol must be paid for.

The room was large (a mini-suite) and clean. Again, nothing outstanding but certainly good quality and dependable. I wish I could say this is the best choice, but it merely exists as the status quo of the better hotel options of the Magnificent Mile area. My ratings of service, sleep quality, etc, are not compared to all hotels, but rather of hotels expected to be exquisite and of the caliber one would expect of this type of establishment.
