“Central location”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

This hotel is central to everything. It's a short walk across the bridge to south michigan ave. Most of the shopping is North including the Water Tower, a vertical mall. The staff at the hotel is typical Marriott meaning great service and attention to detail. Rooms are adequate in size and for a large hotel, the elevators move quickly so even on the top floors there is little waiting. Breakfast buffet is priced for business people so I suggest the bakery just a few doors up the street. For convention goers the busses to McCormack place load just across the street within view of the back entrance making it easy to stay inside until the bus rounds the corner. (Convenient on cold and rainy days).
Unfortunately, like many other hotels, they do not include parking, internet or even a cold breakfast but if you want a great downtown location, this is your place.

This was our first stay in Chicago and I picked Marriott Downtown mostly because of the location. The check-in went smoothly and the staff made us feel welcomed. The room was ok, but not up Marriott standards. The bathroom was small and the room itself wasn't as nice as most Marriott rooms we have stayed in. There wasn't anything wrong specifically, but it felt like it could use a reno. The room we had was on the 42nd floor and had a great view of the city.

Every single staff member we interacted with were very friendly and courteous and really made the stay special. The location can't be beat especially for tourists that decide not to get a rental car. Taxis were easy to flag down and the Grand Red Line is a short walk away.

I really have no major complaints and would have probably gave the hotel 3 out of 5 if not for the location and the excellent staff. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Very expensive choice for a conference. Old hotel with old passages and small bathroom. Dated provision of facilities, no free internet, no refrigerator in room, and exorbitant $51 a day charge for parking. personally would avoid except for need to attend conference. Gym is fine, but pool lacks a hot-tub and is so shallow it is difficult to swim. Altogether the facilities for the individual are way below what one would expect at this price.

Then the meeting rooms are a maze with little help in direction so many of us wandered about trying to find the sessions we wanted to attend. Clearly the Conference staff had decided that participants were overweight so the meals were lean and far from substantial. While the conference organizers had done their best with a great conference catalog that hardly overcame the confusion on the fourth & fifth floors.

Altogether a great disappointment and really a poor place for such a large international conference - far better locations can be found at far lower prices with much better facilities outside Chicago (and probably in Chicago). Adviec is avoid if you can.

Room Tip: !0th floor is convenient for gym and pool

Green Features: No evidence of any particularly special environmentally friendly practices - usual stuff about towels that is about it.

We stayed for 5 nights part business trip/ part fun. We had a nice room on the 36th floor facing Michigan Ave. It was a handicapped room by the elevators but we never had a noise issue. The king size bed was very comfortable, the room was clean, had a coffee maker. There were power strips at both bedsides so no problems with outlets. The bathroom was clean with plenty of nice towels.
We did not eat at the hotel. At the meeting I attended within the hotel I had several meals and the food there was good. My company paid for the wifi but I do think the charge of 15.00 a day is outrageous. I believe the wifi is free in the lobby. My DH used the gym, said it was very nice. The front desk staff , concierges and bell men were all very pleasant and helpful. The location is great! Walk out the doors and you will find several amazing restaurants and every department store with in blocks.

Room Tip: ask for one on a high floor facing Michigan Ave

My fiance and I stayed here while visiting Chicago for a special occasion. We had a super view of the city on the 25th floor. The front desk was very helpful in giving us a room with a good view. The bed was extremely comfortable and the staff was super friendly and accommodating.

We had to stop here because our client was paying, and he/she/it thought this was the bees-knees forum for business venues. The advantages: best shopping, entertainment and restaurants within five minutes walk. Best meeting space in the upper Michigan area. The rooms are quiet, clean and efficient.
Bad stuff? Not much. The staff is complacent, even bored or maybe just a bit arrogant. Don’t eat here. You can walk ten minutes, night or day, to great places. Starving? Order room service if you dare. Our colleagues said it was eerily like a Horn and Hardart Automat—if that reference means anything to you. We didn’t bother. We ordered in a pizza. It was Chicago Deep Dish from Giordano's on Rush Street. The hotel staff gave the delivery person (a beautiful 20 something) a hard time getting to our room. The pizza was astonishingly good. Really incredible.
I say Yes to this hotel because it has been here a long time, serves a business function, is better than most and has a manager who takes complaints and actually does something about them.
Not bad. Four and one half stars.

Room Tip: The higher the better. The Magnificent Mile runs day and night.

Green Features: I think they had a few nice plants. That's all the 'environmentally friendly' it got.

My husband was there for a conference, and I got to tag along. This is an excellent location for Chicago-- right on the Magnificent Mile, and close to any type of food you would like. A bustling hotel, the lobby was always busy and noisy, and also features a Starbucks. The staff as a whole were friendly and helpful. Our room faced Michigan Avenue, which was cool, since we could gaze upon the buildings around, and see an excellent lightning show, for free. The room itself was small and a bit tired looking, but the bed had an excellent and comfortable mattress. The bathroom was small, and also tired looking, but the shower was strong and it worked, so yay. We did not have to deal with the parking fees, thankfully, and relied on public transportation, which was excellent. I loved Chicago-- my first real visit. This hotel is near the Chicago river, the shopping (but I recommend hoofing it to State street across the river, though-- better prices), the museums. Free shuttle to Navy Pier, if that is your thing. If you like the museums like I do, then there are all sorts of ways to get to them. Enjoy!
