This hotel has an amazing location in the downtown area of Chicago. It had good restaurants located in and around the hotel. It was walking distance to Navy Pier, Grant Park, and right off Michigan Ave. The room was a little on the poor side for a recent remodel. I would say you probably dont want to spend much time in the room anyways so it might not matter much. My wife and I stayed here during a trip for Lollapalooza. The walk down the street to the park was really easy and yet we were far enough away that the crowds did not affect us on the other days of our trip.

Room Tip: Check in early to get a good room. Ask for a view of the river or navy pier.

This hotel definitely caters more to business travelers, but it's a very nice place to stay with comfortable beds and clean rooms. The bar and lounge area were very modern and fun and seemed to be a good place to hang out. The location was good, but not great depending on what you are interested in during your visit.

My fiancé and I came to Chicago for his birthday. We took the train down and were excited about the location of our hotel because it was great for seeing everything and great walking distance for our reservations we had. Upon our arrival the hotel looked great!! We requested an early check in and checked in at one which was convenient for us. We had a busy day ahead of us and dropped our bags in our room and were on our way again. We arrived back around 630 pm. When we came back to our room we took a closer look and on our white comforter on the sides there were multiple chunky brown looking stains. We immediately called the front desk asking them to please bring up new sheets. The staff was sorry and said they would put the request in. About 745pm we got a call from housekeeping following up with our request and if we needed anything else. My fiancé informed them we still needed the bed sheet changed. We had 830pm reservation for dinner and needed to leave, we took the sheet off and placed it by the door. We arrived back at our room around 1130pm and to our surprise.. The nasty sheet was still in our room not changed!! We called the front desk very upset and the woman we talked to was equally upset because she stated she was the one we spoke to initially when she put the first housekeeping request in. It was late and we were going to bed and we told the woman we wanted to speak to someone in the morning. When we checked out in the morning the woman asked how was our stay and we explained our whole ordeal and how the dirty sheet was STILL on our floor. The woman's response was sorry and our credit card has already been charged sorry about the Inconvenience and have a good day.

Needless to say she really didn't care. The hotel was nice and overall clean. Custom service is where this hotel lacks. We understand things cannot always be perfect but when a customer has a concern or something is dirty in there room it should be addressed not ignored and sent on our way.

Room Tip: If you have a concern ask for a manager otherwise it will never be addressed

Thank you for your comments. I understand your frustration and am embarrassed by the level of service you experienced with our housekeeping staff. I have followed up with our team to find out why this happened and ensure it doesn't happen again. We hope to have a chance to turn this around for you.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in June 2013. The location of the hotel is very nice, a short walk to the Millennium park, the Art Institute, the lake, the magnificent mile and other attractions. Also within walking distance to lively River North. It generally felt safe to walk around at night both towards Michigan ave. and River North.

The reception desk was fast and efficient and we were given a high floor room which offered a magnificent view to the south. The (carpet floor) room was spacious, nicely decorated, though a bit under lit, and had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept. It took us quite some time to adjust the right temperature, probably because there was a strong current of cold air entering under the room’s door. Plenty of amenities were offered free of charge but only if you asked for. I didn’t like at all the positioning of the TV to the side of the bed (and not facing it) which made it very hard to watch TV but I didn’t ask to change room because there are many more interesting things to do in Chicago than watching TV.

The breakfast was very tasty but the variety was not as big as expected especially for the price you pay. Every day the queue to be seated for breakfast was very long. Next to the lobby is a shop which offers a variety of tasty sandwiches, pastries and coffees, however the prices are much higher compared to similar shops on the street.

Wifi Internet was fast, reliable but free only in the lobby area.

A major problem occurred during check out. Our stay was fully pre-paid before the arrival but they charged us for 3 of the 5 nights. Although they immediately recognized their mistake, the amount for 3 nights stay, remained blocked from the credit limit of the card for a full month (30 days) from our departure. Most people don't travel with cash on hand, so Imagine what consequences this may have to your plans if you have 1 (possibly your only) credit card blocked.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel is in a very good, central location off of Michigan Avenue, and near the Lake. The hotel public spaces have been recently renovated and the changes make the hotel more welcoming and brighter. The all-night snack bar is good, yet very expensive. The rooms are basically the same as they always were (I've stayed there several times): very basic, big Hyatt Hotel amenities, clean, yet nothing special. A few more observations - in no particular order:

- The hotel seems to be stingy on soap and towels - had to request more over my 5 night stay.
- Even though requested beforehand, I had to call for pillows, an extra luggage rack and robes.
- Being a repeat, Gold Passport member doesn't mean anything in terms of upgrades, amenities, or room blocking; not sure at what level loyalty recognition kicks-in.
- In the overpass between hotel towers, the space is like a ugly airport terminal and has a bad garbage (food?) odor especially near the Pub and elevators; I pointed out the odor issue to someone who looked like a manager, but he didn't seem to care.
- The gym is pretty good, however, it is hidden in the basement. During the renovation, the gym should have been relocated to an upper floor (with windows& a view).
- The computer station at the front desk to print boarding passes is a great idea, however, it was especially busy the day I tried to use it, and half the printers didn't work; no one near the front desk wanted to help fix things.
- Parking is outrageously expensive. A tip: there is cheaper packing ($35 a night) underneath the 300 Wacker Drive building.
- The lobby restaurant is very good; the staff are attentive and food is decent.

The Hyatt is a clean, bare-bones, convention-style hotel operation and good if you can get a discount. Don't expect any TLC here ... it's really too big and impersonal for anyone to really care. That said, no major complaints on the basics provided.
