“Absolute best hotel in Chicago!”
Reviewed 15 June 2012

Last year, my husband booked the Hyatt on Wacker Drive for our five day stay in Chicago during his ASCO conference. This year, I insisted that we upgrade to the Park Hyatt during our prerequisite ASCO trip in June. I had stayed at the Park Hyatt years ago (right after it opened), and it was just as I remembered - and so much more!

The building has 18 floors of hotel rooms with private residences built on top. (There is a separate entrance for the hotel.) The lobby is serene and quiet (the complete opposite of our experience at the Hyatt, which was beyond chaotic and noisy). There was no line to check in when we arrived, and we were ushered up to our room (1808, a corner unit on the top floor) immediately. The room was well layed out with a foyer area leading to a long hallway past the closet, minibar, bathroom, then into the bedroom. There was the most fantastic view of Michigan Avenue & the lake from our windows. This surely ranks high on the list for reasons to stay at the Park Hyatt! There are sheer and black out shades for all windows, which can be operated by controls by the nightstand. The room was well-insulated from hallway noise; I couldn't hear much in the hallway, though it helped to be in a corner unit. I never got the sense that the hotel was fully booked even though I am sure it was packed with 45,000 attendees in Chicago for ASCO.

The king-size bed was excellent and super comfortable, the LDC TV was fine (the DVD player an employee brought up and hooked up to the TV was much appreciated), the Herman Miller Eames lounger and ottoman were amazing and stylish. My husband is such a fan of the lounger that he wanted to buy one for our condo as well - until he realized the price! We loved the small but thoughtful touches in the room - complimentary bottled water every day, Frette bathrobes, complimentary guest services office off the lobby on the first floor (for computer and printer use), extra toiletries in the closet.

Housekeeping was thorough and neat in general. My only complaint about housekeeping is that they aren't particular or prompt about clearing room service trays that are ready to be taken. We had an instance or two in which housekeeping left the trays & tables and cleared the entire room otherwise. Just made it seem less clean.

The spa on the 7th floor didn't have availability for the day I requested, so I instead visited the Peninsula's spa, which is wonderful and just a block away. I would recommend the Peninsula in general for their spa services, but I personally didn't have the most relaxing experience. My aesthetician was efficient and quite forceful; the manicure I received was fine but I didn't feel relaxed until I lounged on their outdoor terrace post-manicure. Anyway, the Park Hyatt's spa, fitness center, restaurant (nomi) and their outdoor lounge area (nomi garden) are all located on the 7th floor. Drinks at nomi garden were pretty good; not going to lie though - paying $20 for a drink was a surprise, even after living in NYC for five years.

We ordered from room service three times, and all three times, their estimated delivery times were spot on. Everything we ordered - 800 burger, buffalo chicken wings, chicken caesar salad, sushi from nomi, etc - was pretty tasty. Note: there is an automatic 17% service charge for all room service orders.

On our last day in Chicago, my husband and I reserved two biked through concierge at the Park Hyatt and went biking along the lake for a few hours. It was so lovely to be outside on bikes for a change! We recommend guests at the Park Hyatt make use of this offering. The bikes were in okay condition (mine had handlebars that were unbalanced and the bike creaked quite a bit), but overall, it was fine. They provide helmets, locks, bottled water, etc for the four hours you're allowed to take the bikes. Of course, there is a waiver form to be signed by everyone using the bikes.

We loved our stay at the Park Hyatt. It was luxurious, comfortable, quiet, elegant - we felt very well taken care of during our five days there. We would recommend the hotel to everyone - friends, acquaintances, colleagues, family. Make sure to ask for a room with a view of Michigan Avenue & the lake - it was spectacular!

We spent 3 nights at the Park Hyatt Chicago in June. The service was wonderful and gracious whenever we entered the hotel or had any concerns. The concierge staff (especially Karen) was wonderful and had great suggestions for restaurants, general ideas, walking routes, etc. We were also able to use the car service to get us to dinner one night and that was great. The room was large -- especially for a city hotel -- and overlooked the water tower and then out to Lake Michigan. The amenities were top quality, the bed was ultra-comfortable, and every night they would fill the ice bucket and leave water by the bed. We had breakfast daily at NoMI and that also was great and the staff would bend over backwards to make sure that you got everything you wanted. All in all, this was a great experience.

looks good on the outside but does not perform inside - staff is indifferent at best and does not get they are in a service business, restaurant is overpriced and serves what should be hot food cold. Same price as other higher end hotels but not nearly as good. The rooms are well appointed however and if management paid any attention they would take steps correct this situation but they don't seem to care.

Room Tip: rooms are all the same and not the issue here

This was my first time visiting the city and we had the privilege of staying in Park Hyatt. Immediately, we were met with great service. Everyone was very nice and helpful.
We were on the 9th floor with a direct view of the NoMi outdoor lounge. The rooms were really great. From our bedroom we could see into the bathroom. There were sliding doors that served as a partition between the bedroom and bathroom.
The location of the hotel is the best. Millenium Park, Navy Pier are all within 15-20 mins walk from the hotel.
Our only con was that shower doors were not secure. I mean that whenever we took a shower, water would leak out of the door. So, we had a puddle of water after every shower on the bathroom floor.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chicago.

We had booked this 2 night stay months ago, and greatly looked forward to it. In many ways our expectations were far, far exceeded, in others...less so.
The GREAT: we received lovely, lovely rooms - and all were upgrades over what we had booked. One mega suite (1400' square feet) with spectacular lake views, an absolutely phenomenal room, never to be forgotten. We loved it, and actually called down to thank the front desk! The 2nd room was also a suite, quite nice, with a pretty lake view, on a slightly lower floor. Very nice upgrade, much appreciated. 3rd room was a corner King, park view, light and bright with a tremendously comfortable chair. Baths were great - huge soaker tubs with candles and bath salts, heavenly showers, and (in the suites) TV actually built into the mirror. Vanity and make-up areas. Suites had espresso machines, King did not.
The GOOD: overall staff was very friendly. Bellman and doorman were particularly pleasant. Any type of request was handled quickly from all staff. Clothes sent out to be pressed were returned perfectly! NOMI breakfast was very very good, we enjoyed everything we tried... be prepared, it is pricey. Breakfast for 4 was over $100 before tip.
The Disappointing: Several housekeeping and other service lapses. Check-in was not that friendly, not handled smoothly, and generally blahh. As mentioned, espresso machines- but had to call down each day for cups, cream, sugar, etc. Bath candles were not replaced once used. Amenity items (newspaper, fruit/cheese tray) were not provided as they should have been, and had to remind/request. Rooms were not ready upon arrival (we were early, and it was NOT expected that they would be!) but promised phone call to advise of availability never came. Small issues, but began to add up in just a 3 day stay....

BUT - the rooms we were given for the rate we paid offset ANY small service lapse we experienced - so overall loved our stay....but can't give the hotel a perfect score.

Recommend for a splurge? Absolutely. Great location, elegant surroundings, and killer baths!

My friend and I arrived near midnight for our one night stay. Valets very attentive and friendly, checkin was easy. After driving 10 hours from Little Rock, was ready for bed when I arrived at the room. Room was large and comfortable, garden tub and a shower, bench seat along large window. We found cookies on the table with a personal note.

My companion had trouble fiquring out the lights and window controls...she is 79...but when the sun streamed in at 6AM I quickly found the shade and closed it for a little more sleep. The view from our 8th floor room was specatcular. The lake, the towers, the shops on Michigan Ave. I was surprised there was no coffee maker in the room. As a "gotta have my java" girl, I sought out a wonderfully bold and strong cup of coffe from the restaurant. Please keep filling, and filling and filling...the cup. Thank You.

We were here to attend an event held in one of the conference rooms off the main dining at Nomi. Standard conference room, large table, large windows (another nice view). Again modern controls were dealt with to silence the music in the room, I had no problem with this. After our meeting, lunch was served for our small group.

Appetizers of three sushi types, fresh wasabi and ginger, soy and fresh bread. The group ordered many different items..soup, chicken salad, tuna salad, artichoke. There were no complaints on food taste, freshness or prep.

We had requested a late checkout and were running late getting things packed up. The valet had our car out front promptly, and the bell hop actually helped companion finish packing up, he recieved a generous tip for going above and beyond. Valets offered to help up with navigation out of the city, but the Garmin was programmed and ready to go.

All in all a short and sweet stay in the Park Hyatt. Would have loved to do some sightseeing or shopping, but time did not allow. Location, Location, Location and friendly staff make this a highly reccommended hotel.

Loved the Park Hyatt, great location with loads of both high end and retail outlets for the shopaholics. The service was great and staff very friendly. Rooms were well furnished, loved the electric blinds and the 3 huge complimentary red apples that were very refreshing after a day spent enjoying the sights & sounds of Chicago. The Nomi bar is a great place to unwind especially in summer.
I loved the city in general, folks are lovely, friendly & laid back and there are loads of things to do and see as well as great places to eat.

Room Tip: I was in room 970 and had a great view of the water tower & Lake Michigan in the distance. Ask f...
