Rooms are large by European standards (but average by US ones), equipment in the room is OK - very traditional style.Location is the key asset of this hotel as it is in Chicago downtown, not far from the Lake and all places/shops to visit. Overall comfortable hotel and staff is pleasant but do not expect something exceptional - good to stay for a few days.

My eleven year old son and I used Marriott Rewards points in order to spend five nights at the Renaissance. We could not have been happier! This "boutique like" property fronts the Chicago River and is centrally located at the intersection of State and Lake St...the major transfer point for the red line subway and all L trains.

A concierge called ahead to confirm our stay. When I explained that my son and I take a similar trip together each summer (Boston, San Fran, LA, NYC, etc.), the young lady went out of her way to ensure our stay was special! Our view was spectacular, with large windows looking out over the famed river, North side skyscrapers, and State Street Bridge. Like the free appetizer and sodas that greeted us upon returning to the room on night one, none of this was by accident. The hotel staff went above and beyond to accommodate our every need and make our days together special. Whether it was an early check in, free luggage storage, or providing me with 2 free sodas late one night when my "cash was low," the staff at the Renaissance rock!"

We purchased a week long transit pass, allowing us to walk out the rear door and ride the train or bus everywhere, including the airport, both baseball stadiums, museum campus, Robie House in Hyde Park, etc. Otherwise, we were in walking distance of all loop, Millennium Park, Mag Mile, and Navy Pier attractions.

Regardless of circumstance, the Renaissance provides the perfect mix. With a premier location, an interior that is stylish and hip, and a staff that is approachable, relatable and most of all CARING!

As someone who likes to explore, I rarely stay at the same place twice. If I return to Chicago this is one hotel worthy of an exception.

Close to the brown, blue, red, green lines. Great location for shopping, sightseeing and nightlife. The rooms are beautiful and clean. It's a short walk (about 1 mile) from the Amtrak station as well. My husband flew into O'hare and took the blue line from the airport to clark/lake stop. It was about a 3 block walk from there. I would definitely stay here again.

Room tip: The rooms facing Wacker drive were fairly quiet.

Great hotel with a beautiful view of Wacker Dr. I recommend this facility for business, couples or friends traveling and enjoying downtown Chicago! The train is close by or the ferry is available, depending how you want to see Chicago.

Stayed 3 nights this month for Lolla. This place is in a fantastic location and is reasonably priced from a room rate standpoint given it's location. I understand this part of Chicago is a tourist trap so we expected to overpay for food and beverage but this place went a little overboard. Almost $600 for breakfast (2 people) and don't even ask what we paid for a few glasses of wine and snacks. Thankfully this is in an area with tons of restaurants so you don't have to eat in the hotel. I recommend for casual travelers who don't mind leaving the hotel to eat (I would hope staying in this area of Chicago you would) or are prepared to pay the piper.
