“Charming!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

We stayed at the Willows during a visit to Chicago to go to a concert at Wrigley Field. What a charming hotel! It is nestled on a tree lined street, though it is convenient to many shops, restaurants and the L. The staff was very attentive and helpful with suggestions on where to visit and the easiest way to get around. The rooms, though a bit on the small side were very comfortable with all the amenities that were needed including a nice "honor bar" with snacks and drinks that were not outrageously priced. Breakfast is included and a nice variety was offered. We will definitely stay here again!

My wife and I recently stayed at The Willows for a long weekend getaway. The customer service was wonderful. We were greeted by Ben, who was willing to go out of his way to provide us with the best possible stay. You rarely find an employee with so much pride in their job as Ben. I was going to ask me if he was an owner of the hotel.
The location of this hotel could not be better. The Lincoln Park are is great for eating, shopping and walking to the lake.
The hotel is a beautiful old building. Do not stay here if you need a massive room. The rooms are very quant.
We will definitely return to The Willows on our next stay in Chicago.
Very easy walking distance to Wrigley Field too.

We were happy with our choice. The hotel is on a quiet street, but conveniently located to Lincoln Park, as well as lots of lively restaurants and shopping around the corner. I liked the charm of the old building. I assume there has been some recent updating done, because it did not strike me as worn. The bed was comfortable, plumbing efficient, air conditioning functioned well, and the room was stocked with amenities. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly. On the negative side, we faced a brick wall, the towels are smallish (however, laundering them is better for the environment), and there are no safes in the rooms. It was nice to have breakfast included, but it was mediocre. I object to paper bowls for cereal, however, I liked having the fruit salad made-up in plastic cups. Parking was OK, and although expensive, it was less expensive than downtown Chicago. We will stay here again.

In our travels, we find that a willing staff overcomes some other shortcomings. This is a neighborhood hotel in the Lincoln Park area, well located near lots of shops and public transport. Buses that take you downtown to Michigan Ave. or the Loop are steps away. The brown line L is a ten minute walk.

The property is old, but somewhat updated. Our room was large, but decorated in a somewhat somber color scheme. We stayed in two different rooms, two nights in each. Parking is in a public garage, a half-block down an alley, a drawback. We arrived before midnight, and the night desk clerk Juan was very helpful in helping us find the garage entrance, and guiding us into a tight parking spot. The helpfulness and training of the staff was a real bright spot. In this neighborhood, there are not that many hotels to pick from. We would likely rebook here.

This is a good choice location for someone wanting to be near downtown, at a lower cost. Downtown hotel parking is extremely costly.

Continental breakfast was included, but it is pretty basic.

My family lived in Chicago for 10 years and we took the kids back to the 'ole neighborhood to show them around. Willows hotel was the perfect place. You really feel like you're in the heart of Chicago - no tourist traps to be seen - just good food, great location and wonderful people.

We couldn't recommend them any higher

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor - no one above you means quieter (it's a Chicago thing)

I have wanted to stay at The Willows for a while now. Our son lives in a part of Chicago very close to this hotel. We typically stay downtown because we cannot find a hotel to our liking near him. Finally, my wife and I got out of our comfort zone and booked a three night stay.

My first impression was not great. The Willows could use a little of a make over. It is not in horrible shape. It just looks a little worn. The next issue was the bed. It was lumpy. Although, I must admit, it was more comfortable than I would have first imagined.

The last negative was the bare-bones continental breakfast, a little disappointing. A little more variety would be nice.

Still, I rated the hotel four stars (truth in advertising, I would have given it 3.5 but since I cannot, I rounded up). Overall, the room was comfortable. The location was great for our needs. Lastly the people, THE PEOPLE, were fantastic! From the time we stepped in to The Willows to the time we left, the entire staff was friendly and helpful. The front desk, the maid staff and the bellman, all wonderful.

A special call out to Adrian at the front desk and Ben, the bellman. Adrian was EXTREMELY helpful and directed us to a couple of really fine restaurants in the area. Ben will bend over backwards to take care of your every need. He was also very helpful in getting our car loaded when we were leaving.

To those who are looking for big rooms with all of the bells and whistles, this is not your hotel. Like most old hotels, the rooms are small. This is not a negative for me. After all, I am in the room to just sleep. If you love a hotel with charm and some history, then The Willows may be for you.

I am sure when we come back to the greatest city in the world, we will be making a reservation to stay at The Willows again. You should too.

The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, always at the ready to go the extra mile! The lobby is appealing and the rooms spacious. The parking was right behind the hotel and reasonable relative to other Chicago parking rates! Would have liked more fresh fruit choices for breakfast.
