This hotel is located on a quiet street in a residential area that is just around the corner from many restaurants and shops. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us when my husband wasn't feeling well. Among those who served us in such a kind way were Bridget, Ben, John, Bianca, Neli, and Daniela. Our room was on the second floor facing the alley but we had a view into the pretty backyard of the building on the corner. Other rooms on this floor face another building but about 20 feet away so you do get light coming into the rooms. The room was very large and had a table and some chairs as well as 2 double beds which were comfortable. Breakfast offered many choices of cold foods.

We were visiting family in Chicago and chose The Willows because of its location in Lake View. From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming. Our room was large and felt very modern, as if it had been newly renovated. The pillows were the most comfortable I have ever had at a hotel, and I got a great night's sleep in their beds. The wifi was a little shaky at times but overall worked well, and the in-room internet access through the television was something I have never experienced before. It was great to use for researching attractions, events, and places to eat in the city. The continental breakfast each morning was excellent, with just about any breakfast food you could think of being offered. Overall though, what makes The Willows a wonderful place is its staff. They do whatever it takes to make sure their guests were having all their needs met and are comfortable. This includes them personally offering to deliver ice to our room when we didn't know where the machine was, as well as each staff member giving their own personal recommendations on their favorite places to eat in the neighborhood. Every time we left the building, the front desk staff would say "Enjoy your day!" When we would return at night it was "Welcome back, how was your day?" Even when getting breakfast downstairs each day it was, "Good morning. How did you sleep?" These are the little things that make guests feel welcome and cared for, and I cannot stress enough how much it meant to us. Staying at The Willows fully enriched my visit to the city and I will be booking here exclusively for all my future travels to Chicago. I would give The Willows 10 stars if I could.

We just returned from a week (Aug 13-20) at The Willows, our go to hotel in Chicago. As always, the staff was more than accommodating and extremely pleasant - special thanks to John, Ben and Juan. Our suite was quiet and comfortable and breakfast is always a treat with many choices for all tastes, and kept well stocked. There are lots of great shops and restaurants quite close to the hotel, and make sure to note the beautiful architecture of the neighborhood. There is plenty to see and do within short walking distance, and public transportation is just steps away. A great hotel in a great location - we'll be back.

If you are visiting family or friends in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area this is THE hotel to stay at for a relaxing, hassle free stay. We stayed at The Willows Aug. 14 - 17. Were lucky to find a FREE parking spot on the street right next to the hotel. We found the staff to be quite pleasant and very interested in making sure that our stay was exceptional. check-in was simple and efficient. Our room (King Suite) was spacious and clean. I have heard that some other rooms are shockingly small as this is an older building. There were a couple of "quirks". The remote for the bedroom also inadvertently changed the channels for the sitting room TV! Ha! The bed was quite comfortable. Wi-fi was strong and no hiccups.

I can't say enough about Adrian, Eric and Ben who made our stay above and beyond.

Why 4 stars and not 5? Two main things. First, the towels are quite old and small. We had to ask for extras, you need two per shower. Let's invest in some new towels folks! Second, the breakfast is marginal at best. They have some severe space limitations as the front lobby was not designed to be a breakfast area. I really don't enjoy starting my day in a jam-up of people. hovering over the microwave, toaster, coffee, etc. The fare that was offered was humdrum. It's a shame because with a little bit more of an investment you know they could be getting fresh baked goods, juices and cereals. A hard boiled egg is the only protein they put out there and the one egg I got was over the hill. Given the prices they charge you expect a bit more than what you would get from a bottom rung hotel chain. These two things are not hard to fix.

All in all it was a very nice, stress free stay.

This was a fantastic place to stay for so many reasons. The rooms were up to date and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was pretty good. The best part about this hotel though was its location. The neighborhood was wonderful with cute shops and plenty of restaurants, and even an urban Wal-Mart and Walgreens for any forgotten essentials. We were in walking distance of the zoo and Wrigley Field and an L-stop. The rate we got was very good for Chicago. The only problem we had was that upon arrival they did not have any in/out parking passes left so we had to pay for one day whenever we left and re-entered, but they reimbursed us for this so in the end it all worked out. I highly recommend this hotel when visiting Chicago!

This is a charming old hotel with updated rooms. The hotel staff is super accommodating. I wish I could remember all of the staff's names as they should all be commended for providing superior service! We received a great rate through a hotel website for two nights when we stayed the first time during mid-August, 2014. We liked it so much that we are paying full price to stay again in mid-September, 2014. The hotel is just half of the story! I have to agree with another reviewer, "...quaint...but fit like a comfortable jacket."

The neighborhood is delightful as well. We walked a great deal but found two restaurants nearby that we intend to visit on our next trip. There is a great Turkish restaurant (Efes) with outdoor seating or inside traditional Turkish seating just around the corner. Also, Le Creperie is just two blocks away and has great main course and desert crepes. They are authentic and this is one of the oldest Crepe restaurants in Chicago. On a pleasant day, you can dine in the back garden, away from the bustle of the city.

Less than a mile from Wrigley field, this special charming hotel is a must-try! Breakfast is included in the price and was lite but good. Croissant sandwiches and breakfast sweets delivered fresh from a local bakery.

Another plus - parking with 24 hour in/out access is only an additional $22 per night.

But also north to great little burbs
